General Manager Ditches The Desk To Run 1,000kms To Raise $400K For Kids In Need

This challenge aims to raise a staggering $400K for the Julian Burton Burns Trust and Variety – the Children’s Charity collectively.

When we think of General Managers, it’s easy to picture a bunch of suited people, sitting at a desk, plowing through a pile of paperwork, being, well, corporate. Not all General Managers change the world from behind their laptops though, with Ashley Ralph, General Manager – Program Partners for Clipsal by Schneider Electric, bucking the trend by setting himself the enormous challenge to run 1,000km over 10 days in February 2017. This challenge aims to raise a staggering $400K for the Julian Burton Burns Trust and Variety – the Children’s Charity collectively.

Ashley will be aiming to complete an average of 100km per day over a ten-day period, equivalent to running 2.5 marathons every day!

Running through regional Victoria and South Australia, Ashley will engage with local communities along the way before finishing in spectacular fashion, down the finishing strait of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide track on Friday 3 March.

Ashley is no stranger to a challenge. In 2014, he cycled 2,800km over 14 days from Perth to Adelaide, in 2012 he placed 3rd in the Adelaide Ultra Marathon and in 2006 he cycled 3,000kms over 21 days, raising funds for other worthy causes. He is also an eight-time Ironman triathlon finisher, four-time Half Ironman finisher and four-time 42km Marathon finisher.

Ashley says, “The Club Clipsal 1000 challenge is my biggest physical and mental challenge yet but it is nothing compared to the challenges faced by burns survivors and children facing a life-threatening condition every single day”.

Ashley will be launching the Club Clipsal 1000 Car Raffle with 600 tickets are available at $50 each to win a Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport Hatch 7-Speed SVT valued at $26,773 drive away, including all on-road costs.

This car has kindly been donated to Clipsal by Schneider Electric by Toyota and aims to raise $30,000 for Variety SA and the Burns Trust collectively.

Clipsal by Schneider Electric and Club Clipsal members are committed to the Club Clipsal 1000 Challenge. “It is because of their generous support that we are well on our way to raising $400K collectively for Variety SA and the Julian Burton Burns Trust,” Ashley said.

Julian Burton OAM, Founder & Executive Chair of the Julian Burton Burns Trust said “We are proud of our long standing corporate partnership with Clipsal by Schneider Electric. It is great to see them and Club Clipsal get behind Ash’s challenge. We are also proud to be working in collaboration with Variety SA to raise funds for kids in need.”

Mark McGill, CEO of Variety SA added to Julian’s comments saying ‘’Ashley has a wonderful track record of performing extraordinary feats of endurance for the benefit of others in need.  On behalf of all of the children who will benefit, we say thank you and we are honoured to partner in the Club Clipsal 1000 with the Julian Burton Burns Trust.’’
