Gerard McCabe Inspires New Collection Like No Other

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend then so too is renowned South Australian jeweller Gerard McCabe Jewellers.

Gerard McCabe Jewellers has this week launched ‘Echunga’, an exclusive new collection of diamonds pieces inspired by the mystery and folklore of a local South Australian story.

During the late 1800s approximately 50 rare and coloured diamonds were discovered in the Adelaide Hills goldfields near Echunga, and to this day the true source of these diamonds remains a mystery.

Gerard McCabe appraised five of the original diamonds in 1994, and was so inspired by the dazzling colours of the stones that he has since designed a distinctive collection like no other, launched in store on Monday April 2.

“Drawing inspiration from the original diamonds, we have master crafted exclusive pieces to reflect the beautiful colours and stunning shapes of those found in and around Echunga,” said Gerard McCabe.

“No two diamonds are alike in this collection. Each piece is completely unique, locally made with internationally-sourced diamonds, and individually inspired by a story from the Echunga region.

“We’ve chosen special names for each piece in the collection, such as the Glover Stone for example. This piece is named after its discoverer John Glover and was reportedly a pale red colour when found but after being stored with radioactive minerals in the 1950s, changed colour to a fine yellow.”

‘Echunga’ is currently available at the Gerard McCabe Jewellers Adelaide Arcade and Rundle Mall stores.
