Get Down And Funky At The Deep South Festival!

Funky music, an awesome venue, plus amazing South Australian food and wine… The Deep South Festival will be awesome!

Deep South – Roots, Blues and Folk – Festival is set to take over Adelaide’s iconic hotel The Gov for two days and four nights, starting this week, 19 – 22 November.

Headed by Australian blues guitar genius Ray Beadle, who will treat audiences to two different performances over the weekend, the Festival hosts The Backsliders fresh from a tour of the East Coast and the exclusive reformation of Adelaide soul/blues legends Double Wammy.

Denis Kipridis, Deep South founder and director, said

“The response to Deep South Festival over the past few years from music lovers and artists alike has been just magnificent. Blues, folk and roots lovers block this weekend out in their calendars and artists are asking to come back to play.”

The Gov is recognised as the place to catch live music, receiving the Best Venue award at the SA Music Awards and the AHA SA ‘Best Live Venue’ award for the fourth year running. It’s a place where music lovers can be assured an experience they won’t forget.

For the fourth year running, The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel entirely transforms into a fully-fledged festival with music stages throughout for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s R&B Extravaganza features two stages and 10 artists. Featuring some of Australia’s premier R&B artists both nationally and locally, Deep South Festival will celebrate both musical legends and fresher talent throughout the day.

The line up includes Ray Beadle Band (NSW), Mojo Webb Band (QLD), Pugsley Buzzard (Vic), Psycho Zydeco (NSW), Shaun Kirk (Vic), Wasted Wanderers, Benny C & The Associates, Double Wammy, Blues Eyes Cry (Vic) and The Dirty Roots Band.

Sunday gives audiences a chance to get up close and personal. It’s about coming so close to the music that you can touch it, feel it – even almost taste it!

This year will see both Ray Beadle and Mojo Webb performing with their full interstate bands the previous day, and following up with an intimate solo set each. The Backsliders will also be part of this very special afternoon.

Three sister events are tagged for the Thursday and Friday including the charismatic, cheeky and oh-so-talented Fiona Boyes releasing her new album on the Thursday evening as a limited seated “exclusive performance” precluded by an art exhibition from local artists who are also musicians.

Friday Nov 20 hosts the return of the sell-out hit Women Sing The Blues with Ursula White, Jan Preston’s Boogie Circus (NZ) and Zkye.

This year, the focus is not just on the music stars. South Australian food and wine is getting a headlining position, owner of The Gov, Melissa Tonkin explains:

“Our new chef has been working with local South Australian producers to create a delicious menu for the event. We’ll have locally-sourced platters, wines and of course our famous wood-oven pizzas on offer.”

Festival goers can buy a weekend pass for the Saturday and Sunday at a discounted rate or purchase tickets separately for each day, including the bonus events on Thursday and Friday evenings.
