Get set for electric events within this historic CBD hotel

Looking to throw and epic party but not sure where to start? Make Electra House the top of your list with a number of fun spaces on offer.

Nestled in the heart of Adelaide at 131 King William Street, Electra House cuts a bold figure on the streetscape, blending the city’s rich architectural herittage with vibrant modern culture.

While many of us know it for its cocktails and vibrant nightlife, there’s much more on offer at this Adelaide icon, with many beautiful spaces hidden behind lesser-known doors. Over the past 12 months, the versatility of the venue has been discovered, and bookings for private, non-corporate events have exploded.

“While Electra House has always been popular in the corporate world for events, over the last 12 months, the team have noticed an incredible shift into the more casual scene,” General Manager Chase Baldacchino said.

“What differentiates us from other places is that we are not just a stand-alone function room.

“The spaces have character, as Electra House oozes charm, from the furniture to the overall vibe of the building.”

Originally designed by John Quinton Bruce in 1900, this iconic building was constructed for the Citizens’ Life Assurance Company and later became known as Electra House in 1940, named after the Greek mythological figure Electra, symbolising brightness and brilliance.

Electra House boasts a striking facade featuring Corinthian columns, intricate stonework, and distinctive red granite. These elements highlight its classical Victorian design, making it a standout in Adelaide’s architectural landscape. The building is also home to Adelaide’s first electric lift, installed in 1905, adding to its historical significance.

The interior of Electra House is as impressive as its exterior. Following a meticulous $10 million renovation led by Studio Nine Architects and interior designer Danielle Elia, the building seamlessly blends heritage elements with contemporary design.

The renovation preserved original features such as timber staircases, high ceilings, ornate pillars, and heritage wall panelling. These are complemented by modern additions like marble bars, bespoke seating, and elegant lighting, creating a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere that is attracting new audiences to the venue.

Electra House spans three levels, each offering unique experiences. The ground floor houses the vibrant Electra Bar and one of Adelaide’s largest beer gardens, characterised by timber decking and a dynamic external staircase. This floor draws inspiration from New York’s architectural styles, with exposed brickwork and steelwork creating a chic urban ambience.

The top floor is dedicated to exclusive function spaces, ideal for private events. These rooms are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for tailored setups that cater to various needs, from corporate meetings to intimate gatherings. The spaces are enhanced by natural light, high ceilings, and carefully curated furnishings that ensure comfort and elegance.

Electra House’s thoughtful design and versatile spaces make it an exceptional venue for functions and events. The combination of historic charm and modern amenities provides a unique setting that can accommodate a wide range of occasions. Whether it’s a corporate event, wedding, or social gathering, Electra House offers an unforgettable backdrop with its blend of classic architecture and contemporary flair.

“Electra House has five unique function spaces to choose from. Whether you are wanting a small five-person board room or a 400-person cocktail party, we have the ability to adapt and create the most memorable event possible,” Chase said.

But you don’t need a formal event to enjoy the venue.

“If you’re not looking for a dedicated functions space, the main bar caters to large bookings with no minimum spends” Chase explained.

The venue’s prime location in Adelaide’s CBD, coupled with its rich history and stunning design, makes Electra House a top choice for hosting functions. Its array of spaces, from the lively beer garden to the elegant private rooms, ensures that every event can be customised to meet specific requirements, providing guests with a memorable experience.
