Grillers, smokers and low & slowers fire up – the ultimate wine pairing for your backyard barbecue creations is now available.
The Barossa Valley’s Gibson Wines and Adelaide’s own Weber Grill Academy have expanded their partnership, by releasing a limited-edition bottling – ‘Smokey Oak’ Shiraz.
The 2020 Gibson Smokey Oak Barossa Shiraz, limited to 500 cases, has been crafted with the assistance of Weber’s grill experts, to complement a range of barbecue foods.
The wine, released today at $30 RRP and available for purchase exclusively from Gibson’s online store, will also be featured at publicly-ticketed barbecue cooking experiences at the Weber Grill Academy in Rose Park, Adelaide.
The Gibson Smokey Oak Shiraz combines several small parcels of fruit grown in the Northern Barossa. Individual barrels from the 2020 vintage were earmarked for the Smokey Oak Shiraz by winemakers Rob Gibson and Adam Fiegert, which showed plush, generous fruit and toasty spice complexity.
The final blend was selected by Weber Grill Academy’s Jacinda Gregg and Adam Mizzi, with an eye on complementing a range of flavours that can be developed “under the hood” of a barbecue.
“From seared to sizzled, smoked to slow-cooked, barbecue flavours were calling out for a purposefully crafted red wine to complement them”, said Jacinda Gregg. “Gibson’s generous Shiraz style was an obvious choice, and we’re sure grill enthusiasts will agree”, she added.
“We’re not just talking ribeye steaks and smoked lamb shoulders either – the Gibson Smokey Oak Shiraz is bright and balanced to pair equally well with something like miso roasted pumpkin, or spiced cauliflower served with labne”, added Adam Mizzi.
Gibson have also released a limited bundle – a six bottle pack of the Smokey Oak Shiraz and a portable Weber Smokey Joe® Charcoal Barbecue, priced at $299. Available until stocks run out from www.gibsonwines.com.au
The Gibson Smokey Oak Shiraz will be available for sampling at Weber Grill Academy Adelaide’s barbecue class experiences from Friday 14th April.
