Gibson Wines has opened its newly refurbished Cellar Door, promising visitors a unique experience among the vineyards of Light Pass in the Barossa region. The upgraded facility premiered this weekend, marking a new chapter for the family-run winery established in 1996.
The Cellar Door’s renovation was executed by S2 architects, a firm known for its work with other high-profile Barossa properties, including Torbreck and Seppeltsfield. The design aims to provide a ‘cosy yet sophisticated’ atmosphere, incorporating natural materials like terracotta, white oak, and deep mauve finishes. The space is elegantly adorned with a timber batten raked ceiling, under which hangs pendant lighting. The setting is completed with polished concrete flooring, mid-century furnishings, and ‘the cutest wood fireplace in the Barossa.’
One of the notable features of the revamped Cellar Door is the glass bifold doors that lead to a paved alfresco area, offering panoramic views of Gibson’s vineyards and its micro-winery. The construction work was undertaken by Barossa-based Underwood Building, which cared for carpentry and joinery.
Directly across from the Cellar Door, visitors will find ‘The Smithy’, an original Barossa German Settler’s Cottage. This heritage building, notable for its traditional ‘pug’ construction of clay and straw, has been slightly restored over six months, maintaining much of its historical charm.
To coincide with the re-opening of the Cellar Door, Gibson Wines has launched its first single vineyard Shiraz, the 2021 Burkes Hill Eden Valley Single Site Shiraz. This new release can be tasted at the Cellar Door as part of a revised tasting menu, which also features Premium Shiraz flights and cellared bottlings.
The Gibson Cellar Door, nestled at 190 Willows Rd, Light Pass, South Australia, welcomes visitors seven days a week, from 11am to 5pm. They offer two tasting formats: a Classic option at $10, redeemable upon purchase, and a Premium option at $25, providing access to more exclusive Shiraz selections. While walk-ins are welcome, bookings are preferred and can be made through their website at www.gibsonwines.com.au.
