Give a Buck Today For SCOSA

scosa is urging South Australians to dig deep this October for the charity's Give a Buck camapign, as figures show the number of people accessing scosa services has increased by close to 50 per cent over the past five years.

Give a Buck will TODAY see the return of the Bocce by the Balls media challenge (that Kelly Noble from Glam Adelaide will be participating in!) and the Bucking Bull in Rundle Mall at lunchtime, Friday October 12th, as well as the scosa Sky High Sensations Dinner to be held on Friday October 26th.

Bocce by the Balls is a unique media celebrity challenge that pits Adelaide's major media personalities against each other in a game of Bocce lead by scosa clients. The winner will take out the prized 'Balls of Stell' trophy.

scosa's mechanical Bucking Bull will be set up for the annual "Buck Off', with members of the public invited to 'give a buck' for a taste of a true rodeo experience.

On the first day of Give a Buck, scosa's Chief Executive Office, Nicole Graham, said demand has increased significantly for their services which provide fun and engaging activities for people with disabiities to ensure they get the most out of life.

"Over the past year we have recorded a 20 percent growth in demand for our services, so while eight years ago we supported around 90 clients, today we support more than 365 people across the state," she said.

Ms Graham said the simple act of donating a 'buck' or two to scosa this month would really help make a positive different to the lives of people living with disabilities and their families.

"Give a Buck aims to raise enough money to provide more services to help our clients get the most out of life – whether that's participating in dance programs, learning life skills like gardening or cooking, or getting out to enjoy some specially adapted sports programs.

"Although it doesn't sound like much, if every South Australian giave just one dollar, we could raise more than $1.6 million to help support people with disabilities in our community."

This year, scosa is also extending the outreach of its fundraising campaign by signing up local businesses to host one of scosa's signature orange balls to help collect donations for Give a Buck.

Ms Graham said Give a Buck helps to raise disability awareness by showcasing the amazing achievements of our clients and highlights the fun side of life that we can all enjoy.

She said the campaign was all about celebrating the abilities of scosa clients rather than limitations, as well as promoting disability awareness and inclusion in the community.

"Give a Buck reflects the cheeky and playful personalities of scosa clients who, like everyone else, like to have a fun and a good laugh.

"scosa clients are given every opportunity to reach their full potential in life so they can lead happy and fulfilling lives."

During Give a Buck month donations can be made by scosa by dropping loose change into one of the charity's orange donation balls , or by making a donation online at www.scosa.com.au.

Ms Graham urges South Aussies to help scosa paint the town orange this October by attending one of their events or by hosting a donation ball in your workplace.
