Give A Child The Best Christmas Gift They’ll Ever Receive

The Smith Family’s launched its Christmas Appeal today and encourages us to give the gift of education to the disadvantage youth this Xmas.

Around Christmas time, our charitable side comes out and we donate to good causes across Australia to help those in need have a magical Xmas but, what about the other 364 days of the year? Those needing help need our support all year, not just at Christmas time.

Today, The Smith Family launched its Christmas Appeal with the goal to raise $3.66 million by the end of the year to provide thousands of disadvantaged children with access to important out-of-school learning programs in 2017. The funds received will provide more than 8,000 children access to learning support programs including student2student and Learning Clubs.

In 2015, the student2student program saw 95 percent of participants improve their reading! Not only does the program help the disadvantaged youth, but it also encourages students to take time out of their lives to help out their fellow peers where the program matches a student who is behind in their reading with a trained student buddy who listens to them read over the phone, two to three times per week for 18 weeks.

Helping a child gain an education is said to one of the most effective ways to help children catch up, keep up and break the cycle of disadvantage. With more than 1.1 million children living in poverty across Australia, give a child the greatest gift they could ever possibly receive.
