Experience the thrill of the polo this December, with the new event ‘Barossa Polo’ debuting at the iconic Chateau Tanunda for a weekend of polo, glamour and all things Barossa.
Hosted on the Chateau’s private cricket field, the exciting event will be split over two days on December 3-4 in a glittery Friday Twilight event and a family-friendly Saturday afternoon session.
Held against the stunning backdrop of the Barossa Valley, the SA Polo Association will showcase Australia’s best polo talent across two games on both days. Each day will feature pre-polo entertainment, including live music, player interviews and a detailed overview of the game for all the polo-novice attendees.
Friday’s Twilight event is all-inclusive hospitality, for 18+ only. With a corporate skew, visitors are encouraged to celebrate the end of 2021 in style with clients, colleagues, and friends.Saturday’s program is for event goers and families alike. One side of the field will come alive with pitch side party, Club Barossa, featuring bars from key sponsors Peroni, Malfy Gin and Pirate Life brewing.
With a day at the polo synonymous with all things fashion, the inaugural event will host ‘Fashion on the Field’ for all attending trend-setters.
Adelaide BMW’s Fashions on the Field will see over $2,000 worth of prizes from King William Road and DERMA Department to be won with fashion curator and Barossa Polo ambassador, Jasmin Howell judging on the day.
Other exciting spectator entertainment will include half-time divot-stomping and a fierce 50m dash for an array of prizes.
But the party does stop when polo stops playing! Enjoy live music and DJ sets until the sun sets on the gorgeous Tanunda landscape. For lovers of the polo and parties, the exclusive Club Barossa will be the perfect precinct to party on pitch-side all day long.
Event Director, Luke Schapel said after the success of the inaugural Vale Polo Classic, in McLaren Vale earlier this year, the team are thrilled to bring the King’s Sport to the Barossa.
“Demonstration polo matches are growing in popularity, as people become increasingly intrigued by polo as a sport,,” Luke said.
“April’s Easter Saturday event which saw over 1,400 people head to the Vale Polo Classic, is an excellent indication of this.
“We are delighted to host this event at one of the Barossa Valley’s most visited and respected wineries, Château Tanunda.”
Finding a home in the heart of one of SA’s iconic food and wine regions, Barossa Polo strives to highlight as many local businesses as possible, with the two-day event featuring a Cellar Door Trail featuring the very best of the Barossa Valley’s producers.
Guests looking for the complete package can celebrate in style in the G.H. Mumm Marquee. With a flute of French champagne on entry–the package includes 4 hours of premium grazing food, beverages, and transport to and from the event.
Families can enjoy casual hospitality offerings in the designated family area. Family friendly activities include a giant slide and face painting, with plenty of shade and tables available for picnic goers.
Picnic hampers will be available for purchase, and there will be a variety of food trucks onsite across both days of the event.South Australian Polo Association will host two games of polo featuring the best local and national talent.
The reduced playing field has been created to encourage guests to engage with the match.
Another new edition to the Polo line-up includes the Cellar Door Trail – a unique experience for visitors. The trail will showcase outstanding local producers, highlighting the very best of the region. Wineries involved include Hentley Farm, Whistler, Turkey Flat and Levrierto name a few.
