Glam’s Guide To The Adelaide Events You Need To Check Out This April

Because the madness doesn’t stop when March ends…

And just like that Mad March is done and dusted, but not to worry because Adelaide ain’t ready to sleep yet. There’s plenty to keep you busy this Autumn. As such, we’re going out early because we know that you (in the words of Aerosmith) don’t wanna miss a thannnnng.

April 1- Fork On The Road, The Fork Awakens The fork certainly has awoken in Adelaide of late. We like to think that Star Wars super director, George Lucas came here for this very event… but was just a touch early that’s all (see our story here). Regardless, get along for an arvo filled with more delicious food than your body can handle. Yes, this is a stretchy pants suitable event.

April 1- Ni Hao Unley Oxford Street in Unley will be awash with culture this Friday afternoon. Absorb all you can about Chinese culture, including traditional knotting and calligraphy workshops, Tai Chi demonstrations, lion dancing, delicious traditional food and more.

April 1- IT’S NOT WINTER Pop up Art Market Not ready for Winter yet? No neither are we… And neither are these guys! So many stalls to peruse from artwork, to jewellery to pot plants. Something for everyone! Plus live music and food stalls.

April 1- Devour Dessert Night Wipe that drool away. The once famed Devour Dessert Cafe turned itself into a cafe that covers all manner of sins (and dishes) recently. News which we (and our tastebuds) loved, but my oh my we can’t get enough of their dedicated dessert nights. These bad boys fill up fast, as will your tummy at this super sweet event.

April 1- The Secret Garden Party If you haven’t got your tickets for this lush event already unfortunately you’re out of luck. Tickets have sold out, but we’re super proud of all they’ve achieved. Read all about it here.

April 1- The Pot Food and Wine’s ‘Last Friday of the Month’ Lunch Just to fool you, it’s on April 1! Four courses of magnificent seafood, matched with fabulous wines. Has there ever been a dish that comes out of that kitchen that wasn’t amazing!? Doubt it. Phone 8373 2044 to book.

April 1-3- Adelaide 2016 Pregnancy Babies & Children’s Expo Expecting a little one? Or working on it? Everything you need for the pitter patter of tiny feet is at this great annual event.

April 2- Light Bulb Café’s Monthly Degustation Dinner If you haven’t been down here yet it’s a must for a light and bright weekend brunch. But degustations always have us excited! This place is a whole lot more than a cafe. Bookings are being taken at half hour intervals so you don’t have to worry about any of that set time nonsense. Plus we’ve had a peek at the menu. Trust us, you’ll want a ticket to this one.

April 2- Little Bang Brewing Co Launch Party!  Chances are you’ve heard of the sweet sweet drop these guys make and now their little shed dream is growing into a pretty big shed reality. They’re already open to the public but why not get along to the official party? Live music from some cool cats and delicious food from the superstars at Jack Ruby. Let the frothies flow.

April 2- Beachside Food & Wine Festival Beach. Food. Wine. What more do we really need? These Autumn months are hit and miss with temperature, but whether it’s a beauty of a warm day spent with a glass of riesling or a rug-up cool arvo spent with a fine shiraz this little festival is sure to be delightful. There’s even a free beach yoga sesh on beforehand! Namaste.

April 3- Love Cherish Adore Wedding Fair  Love is in the air, da, da, da, love is in the airrrrr. Ok ok we’ll stop. But if you’re in the market for an upcoming love fest, this is the place for you. Prep everything you need for your big day with the biggest and best, or smaller local companies ready to make your wedding day perfect.

April 3- Kick Start Sundays at The Lion Drink specials, music and art – this is one awesome Sunday sesh… This month’s artist is George Agius and she brings her skills in the art of glass to The Lion. We can’t wait to see it!

April 3- Woodstock Revisited The music of the 60s makes its way to the banks of the River Torrens… Get your tie-dye, peace signs and flower crowns ready as this music festival brings you a cracking line up. The event, hosted by Graham Cornes, will include Adelaide rock legends The 1965 Masters Apprentices, Bald Eagles, Full Tilt Janis and Graham Cornes All Stars.

April 6- Roy’s Wine Society Dinner When wine and food combine we are all over that! Hear from Angove’s winemaker Tony Ingle as he talks about what makes this family business so unique. But more than that you can get your mouths around some delicious food with a four course meal, including brandy and wine to accompany each course… Yes, please! Spots are limited so call 8223 5319 or email [email protected].au.

April 7- BRKLYN Media Launch Hold your horses cool kids, this one is for the VIPs. But you will get your chance to jump into one of Adelaide’s slickest new bars on the scene. Keep your eye out on Glam as we bring you all the action from the launch night. This one is going to be hot!

April 8- Mary’s Poppin’ Launch Oh the buzz is certainly here for this one. We cannot wait to get our glitter on and indulge in drag, disco and divas. *Flicks hair* Read all about Adelaide’s newest gay bar here.

April 8- The Village Market Feast Following the success of its first year, Burnside Village is again hosting The Village Market Feast. Yippee! Experience the freshest produce from the centre, cooked by Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis from Sprout Cooking School. Enjoy canapés and sparkling on arrival, followed by a three course meal paired with wines and musical entertainment, plus 10% of all ticket sales will go to TeamKids (The Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation). With door prizes and an auction also supporting the foundation, it’s definitely a night not to be missed! This event is now SOLD OUT so make sure you get in early next time! 

April 8- Healthy Dance Party Now here’s a first! Get your groove on with Adelaide resident DJ Ryley and other secret entertainment first thing in the morning. With yoga classes, free samples (like refreshing coconut water) and nutritional advice. Plus coffee (wahoo) coz ya know it’s early. For those passionate about their health, but also passionate about shakin’ their booty.

April 8- Vinyl Fridays Launches at Hotel Royal Kick it old school as the vinyl makes a comeback! DJs Delta and Pero will be spinning vinyl only in 180 Bar & Bistro. With $10 Espresso Martinis, $7 Corona stubbies and $7 glasses of Wicks, wind down at the end of your working week with this one!

April 8- Clare Valley on Leigh Street Get set for another awesome street party as the launch of the 2016 Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend hits town. We just cannot get enough! And this one is set to be all kinds of delicious… Set on one of the chicest streets in Adelaide’s CBD, Leigh Street, see it transformed as the country comes to the city for one night only at the pop up tasting including twenty wineries. All of the action kicks off from 4.30pm. Hello Friday night knock offs!

April 9- Bike2Market For those that love some two wheeled travel, this is the event for you! This free event is jam packed with music, free bike checks, bike talks, displays and demonstrations. Sprout Cooking is also putting on a special bike-themed cooking demonstration, Bike’N’Blend will serve up some FREE tasty smoothies and your ears will soak up the local music flavour of Jodan D’Sena with two live sets. Sounds like a brilliant family friendly afternoon.

April 9- Oz Comicon Inner nerd be released! Another event old mate George Lucas probably should’ve stuck around for. Seriously, what was he thinking? Get up close to the biggest names in comics, anime, manga, sci-fi, fantasy, TV, movies and animation.

April 9- Nutella-Palooza  All you need to know is: drool fest. Just when your blood sugar levels have dropped from Easter, along comes the world’s first Nutella festival to bring you back on that chocolatey high. Cooking demonstrations, food trucks, bakeries, licensed area, kids’ entertainment and DJs. And an overall theme of gooey spreadable choc-hazelnut goodness. Yassssss.

April 10- Paxton Sunday Sessions Dammmmn Paxton, back at it again with the Sunday sesh. This is unfortunately the last of Paxton’s Sunday Sessions for the season, so you better get in while you can! Free entry to this Mexican style party with food, live tunes and of course plenty to wet your whistle.

April 10- Adelaide’s Annual Wedding Expo 2016 More love in the air! If you didn’t get all you need from Love, Cherish, Adore or couldn’t make it, don’t fret. There’s another brilliant wedding expo to get those sparks flying.

April 10- Howard Vineyard’s Harvest Festival Get some feet on experience at this unique Festival! If you love wine as much as we do then this will be right up your alley! You will get to help harvest the 2016 AMOS Cabernet Sauvignon with Viticulturalist/Winemaker Tom Northcott. Enjoy The Long Table Asian Banquet at their Clover Restaurant after all of your hardwork! April 12- Maybe Mae and The Black Pearl Cocktail Dinner Oh man this is big. If you like a good cocktail and we mean goooood, you’d know that the Black Pearl in Melbourne is where it’s at. Well these amazing cats are coming together with Adelaide faves Maybe Mae to bring you not only a night of food but, you guessed it, world class cocktails. Use the password maybemae on the event and prepare yourself for a tasty night out.

April 13- Paracombe Wine Dinner at Tower Hotel When award winning food combines with award winning wines you know it is going to be one amazing night. April 14- Dine With Chef Kin San At Shiki Heading up the kitchen in Shiki is Ikuei Arakane (affectionately known as Kin San). This legendary chef established Melbourne’s famed Taxi Restaurant and most recently was the force behind the Iron Chef events in Australia. If you love Japanese dining or just want to experience the joy Kin San brings to the plate this one is for you.

April 15- Haigh’s Chocolates To Host A Night Of Pure Imagination Easter may be over but chocolate lovers needn’t despair. SA chocolate icons Haigh’s are hosting a special viewing of the 1971 classic ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ with money from tickets donated to Young Variety, for Variety the Children’s Charity SA. It’s going to be a night of fun as guests are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character from the movie for a Best Dressed competition. The famous Capri Wurlitizer Theatre Organ will play songs from the movie and there will of course be a few chocolate surprises!

April 16- Lindes Lane First Birthday Laneway Party We can’t believe this precious baby has been with us for a whole year. Swing down to one of the city’s swankiest laneways for some stellar food, great drinks and the coolest kids in vinyl, Crackle and Pop! They’ll be doing what they do best for World Record Day with a pop up store for new and rare records. Plus funky tunes.

April 16- Adelaide Zombie Walk- Outbreak Ready to get the adrenalin going? Hope you’ve been watching Walking Dead because as of April 16 Adelaide has been exposed to an infection. Locals are showing signs of decay and zombification… and have begun hunting for prey. Yikes! Enter the arena, battle the obstacle course and see if you can make it out alive!

April 16 & April 17- Superhero Weekend at Cotto on King William Road If you are faster than a speeding bullet, or are able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, then fire up the Batmobile and head to Cotto Espresso this weekend! There will be lots of super happenings and if you get there dressed as a superhero then the regular coffee is on them! Our real superhero only comes out after coffee…

April 16-May 1- Sand Sculpting Australia’s A Day At The Zoo! This is sand on another level… Last year over 33,000 visitors flocked to this epic sand sculpting extravaganza as they brought us their Princesses and Pirates exhibition. And this year it is all about A Day at the Zoo as Port Noarlunga is transformed into a sight to behold. Read more in our story here.

April 17- A FLAMBoyant Party at Oliver’s Taranga The key word here is lamb… Get some meat loving mates together and head to this yummy event held at the stunning Oliver’s Taranga Cellar Door in the McLaren Vale. A three course lunch will feature their very own Taranga vineyards raised Dorper lamb on a spit… Enough said? Well there’s more… Then there are the wines to match. Drool.  

April 17- The Flying Trunk’s April High Tea We love this cute and quirky little bar on King William Road and they are bringing us a delicious High Tea! The drinks menu alone is enough to get us through the door for this event, but when you see the food…. Ohhh yes! But just a hint they will be serving up gin & tonics. Pimm’s Cups and Elephant Espress (a.k.a Espresso Martinis). April 21- 2KW Langmeil Wine Dinner When one of Adelaide’s hottest rooftop venues combines with the a winery dating back to 1842, you know amazing things are going to happen. When we say unmissable, we mean it. When you set eyes on the menu you will understand…

April 22- Diesel Live at Serafino One of Australia’s premium artists is returning to South Australia with a show at Serafino McLaren Vale. Wine and live music go hand in hand. Diesel will no doubt bring his charismatic charm when performing his new “Pieces of Americana” solo show. Opt for just the show, or throw in dinner too. Why wouldn’t you at a spot as stunning as Serafino!?

April 23 & 24- Enlighten Adelaide The Feel Good Festival As the name suggests this fab returning festival is all about feeling good inside and out. Who can argue with that!? They’ve even got a day spa room? Um… yes please! There will also be a pop up cafe, heaps of local health and wellness gurus to help you on your path, free workshops and meditation sessions.

April 24- Diesel at The Highway It seems that Diesel can’t get enough of Adelaide and just had to perform twice… Don’t miss the superstar musician paying tribute to the artists that influenced him on his journey as well as some of his classics. The day kicks off from 2pm with DJ Ryley on the decks followed by the Escapades and then the main man himself. April 25- Groovin The Moo Oakbank Hope your moo is ready to be grooved. This is always a huge event in music, and it is heading back to Oakbank for another year of music festival goodness. Combining huge names like The Rubens and Alison Wonderland with Triple J’s emerging artists always makes for an excellent day of groovin’.

April 27- Martinis and Manicures at Hotel Royal There aren’t many better things in life than that of a perfectly shaken martini… However, when you pair said martini with a manicure and all in the name of charity, you are talking our language! Head to Hotel Royal for a night of pampering with cocktails, canapés, prizes, raffles and products from The Body Shop for sale. All proceeds from raffle tickets will go to Autism SA. April 30- Make A Wish Gala Ball We love a good excuse to don a pretty frock, and the Make A Wish Gala Ball is as good as any! There’s a 3 course meal to be had, live entertainment from All About Her and all tickets purchased go in the draw for a return trip for 2 to London for 2 people! Sounds good to us!

April 30- Exhale Yoga’s Soundbath Namaste indeed. For all the yogis out there this is your chance to experience an incredible workshop focussing on the magic of Tibetan, Himalayan metal bowls, crystal singing bowls, drums, rattles and gongs. Get a sense of deep relaxation and reduce your stress. We are getting in the zone just thinking about it.

April 30- Smoking BBQ in the Shed The guys from The Smoking Joint are a friendly South Australian Competition BBQ Team. Typically they like it Texas style, but they’re about to get all South Aussie up in here when they join together with Big Shed Brewing Co. for an arvo of delicious smoky meat and beer.
