It’s officially behind us … almost. We’re talking about the final month of the year that we can to trend those fashionable trackies and spend our dollars sitting in cafes drinking hot beverages. Yes, August is finally here, bringing with it the last drag of our not so dreary cool patch. While we’re still clinging onto our charming winter scarves and pulling up our socks, we have a ton of things to keep you from sitting on the soggy wet grass.
August 1 – 31 SALA Festival
The ‘South Australian Living Artists’ (SALA) Festival returns for its 21st consecutive year, with their biggest offering of local talent yet. Through visual styles – sculptures, photography, paintings, mixed media and hand crafted jewels, for the course of August, SALA will pack out venues across the State.
August 1 – Meet The Author: Trent Dalton
Hear multi-award winning journalist, Trent Dalton, speak about his glorious and uniquely Australian debut novel Boy Swallows Universe, at Matilda Bookshop, located on the main street of Stirling, on Wednesday August 1st at 6:00pm. This is a fascinating and rambunctious novel, sure to be an Australian classic, and Trent Dalton is an absolute delight. Don’t miss out on what will be a fabulous evening.
August 1 – Women In Wine
Level One has announced a series of dinners celebrating the awesome women that work in the South Australian wine industry. Showcasing talent from different wine regions around our state, the first dinner will bring innovative and award-winning producers from the Adelaide Hills together. On Wednesday Laura Carter (Unico Zelo), Charlotte Dalton (Charlotte Dalton Wines) and Kathy Drogemuller (Paracombe Wines) will be pouring their favourite wines, matched to some of our best-loved dishes from the Level One menu. After the dinner guests will have the opportunity to learn more about each winemaker, with a Q&A panel session hosted by Opinion Media’s Publishing Director Amanda Pepe.
August 2 – Dark Party First Birthday
Never Never Distilling Co is celebrating its first birthday and they’re embracing the darkness of Adelaide’s midwinter. They are throwing a party in the bar that poured their first case, Hains & Co. In their first year, their two initial Dark Series gins (Southern Strength and Juniper Freak) have stepped out of the dark, which will celebrate with cocktails.
August 3 – Warm and Toasty Winter Yoga and Wine

August 4 – Winter Reds Dinner at Mitolo Wines

Returning again after the success of the 2017 event, Science Alive! is back in 2018, bigger and better than ever. August 13 – Meet The NASA Scientists
This National Science Week, NASA scientists will be coming to Australia to speak around the country. They include scientists from the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, Ames Research Centre, Jet Propulsion Lab and CalTech. They work on various space missions, including Kepler and K2, Cassini and TESS (the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite). This is an exciting new 2-year survey mission that will focus on the discovery of exoplanets in orbit around the brightest stars in the sky. Adelaide’s pinnacle street art event for 2018 will be hitting Adelaide as part of the 2018 SALA festival!
