Glass filled SA winery heads to Global Awards following major architecture win

Dandelion Vineyards have claimed first prize for Architecture and Landscape at South Australia’s Best of Wine Tourism awards. Here’s why.

Dandelion Vineyards have just claimed first prize for Architecture and Landscape at South Australia’s Best of Wine Tourism awards and you can see why!

Earlier in September, South Australia’s Best of Wine Tourism winners were revealed, claiming categories ranging from customer service excellence to Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices. Zoe Bettison, Minister for Tourism, said, “congratulations to all the winners of the 2025 Best of Wine Tourism Awards, representing exactly why we are one of the 12 Great Wine Capitals of the World.”

Dandelion received the Architecture and Landscape award “for delivering a “wow” factor with its Wonder Room, thoughtfully designed to capture the stunning views of McLaren Vale.” Perched atop a ridge on the beautiful Firehawk Farm, Dandelion makes the absolute most of it’s surroundings. With floor to ceiling views, the glass laden walls invite venue goers to gaze out into the green expanse while sipping on unique masterfully crafted wines.

The breathtaking, yet aptly named Wonder Room, is a venue that has captivated wine enthusiasts since its opening in May 2023. Nestled amidst 60 acres of vineyards, the Wonder Room offers panoramic views of McLaren Vale, the Willunga Escarpment, and the Gulf St Vincent, creating an unforgettable backdrop for this culinary and wine experience.

Bettison says, “South Australia is home to the best wine tourism experiences in the world – and that is a credit to our hard-working producers and tourism operators that are committed to delivering an exceptional product to the world from our unique wine regions.” Dandelion’s Wonder Room is a testament to the passion winemakers have for their craft and the love they have for showing it off.

The venue is available for group bookings and private functions, offering customisable packages for corporate events, including team-building days, conferences, and milestone celebrations. Open seven days a week, the Wonder Room accommodates up to 48 guests seated or 100 in a cocktail-style format. Dandelion also collaborates with Deluxe E-Bikes and Helivista Helicopter Tours to create personalised experiences for visitors.

Brought to life by Elena and Zar Brooks, the Wonder Room turned an old tractor shed into an elegant cellar door. Its expansive windows create a striking visual appeal that has enchanted visitors and judges. The space brings together form and function, allowing guests to enjoy world-class wines while enjoying the surrounding beauty.

Dandelion Vineyards is no stranger to acclaim. Recently named one of the Top Wineries of Australia 2024 by The Real Review for the sixth consecutive year, their commitment to quality and innovation shines through in every bottle.

An endeavour made possible by Hank Kaas, Looka Design and Darren Jones, GT Building Group, and a spectacular vision, the space meshes perfectly with its surroundings. If you’ve seen it, it’s not surprising Dandelion got the win!

Now the South Australian winners have been selected, they are set to compete on the world stage just next month. The Global Best Of Wine Tourism Award will see the South Australian winners battle it out against the best of the best in their category around the globe. The ceremony will be held in the historic city of Verona, Italy, on Thursday 24 October.

Adelaide’s membership in the Great Wine Capitals Global Network since 2016 has proven just the level of quality the state has to offer. Check out all of South Australia’s Best of Wine Tourism winners here.
