Spellmans’ Social, a beloved neighbourhood hospitality spot, is gearing up to celebrate its second birthday in style with an exciting event called ReggaeFest.
It will be celebrating the community hub that owners Ryan Spellman, in partnership with his sister Emily Spellman, have created.
“It’s our little pocket of paradise in Glenelg East. It’s a space for our community to gather socially for a ‘coffee or frothy’ in an approachable and inclusive environment,” Ryan says.
“The opportunity originally came up a couple of years ago during trialling times, so to celebrate two years of business is very exciting. The celebration isn’t just for us, but those that have supported us including family, friends, regulars and newcomers.”
The festivities will feature an afternoon and night filled with uplifting and soulful music, courtesy of the Joe Amputch Band, Nasio, and the venue’s resident vinyl DJs. It will be a Caribbean-inspired event which comes from Ryans time un the UK and Notting Hill Carnival.
“We’re fortunate enough with the Joe Amputch band they are able to play in that style, which comes naturally to them. It’s another exciting part of the night, adding to the niche Reggae events in Adelaide. It will be festival style, keeping the menu simplistic but done well,” Ryan says.
“It’s a great chance to let your hair down and have a boogie.”
There will be a specially curated menu, offering delectable cocktails and food that will transport guests to the sunny shores of Jamaica. From tantalising jerk chicken to refreshing tropical beverages, the culinary offerings are sure to satisfy the taste buds of attendees.
The event is open to individuals aged 16 and above, making it an ideal opportunity for parents to enjoy a day out while leaving the little ones with a babysitter. However, interested attendees are encouraged to secure their tickets early, as the event has limited capacity, and popularity is expected to be high.
Additionally, early bird ticket holders will be treated to a complimentary beer from Pirate Life Brewing upon entry, adding an extra touch of excitement to the celebration.
They have also recently launched the Spellmans’ Sunday Sessions rom 1pm till 5pm for a few hours of power under the mirror balls with our resident Soul/Funk/Disco vinyl selectors, a shared dining menu to encourage togetherness, a rotating local wine and cocktail list, as well as local craft beer and cider on tap.
For those seeking a warm and inviting spot to relax, socialise, and enjoy excellent food and entertainment, Spellmans’ Social has become a go-to destination in Glenelg.
“We’re fortunate enough that the community gets behind us each time we throw an event. The local community can walk to us and back which makes it easy for them, but we’re also starting to see non-locals travel for our events as well which is exciting,” Ryan says.
