Glide through nature on a kayak & wine tasting tour at Banrock Station

Explore Banrock Station with a guided kayak tour through its wetlands, followed by a relaxing wine tasting overlooking nature.

If you’re heading up through South Australia’s Riverland and looking for something truly special, make a detour to Banrock Station Wetlands and Wine Centre.

Just over two hours from Adelaide, this little slice of paradise offers the perfect mix of eco-adventure and riverside relaxation—kayaking through wetlands, followed by a glass (or two) of wine.

Nestled in over 250 hectares of lagoons and flourishing bushland, Banrock Station is a hidden gem for nature lovers and wine enthusiasts alike. These wetlands aren’t just beautiful, they play a major role in fighting climate change by filtering water and capturing carbon.

It’s nature doing its thing, and now visitors are lucky enough to be able to experience it whilst kayaking.

Teaming up with Brenton Carle from Canoe the Coorong and Canoe the Riverland, Banrock is now offering peaceful, small-group kayak tours through these tranquil waterways.

Brenton, an eco-tourism expert with over 15 years experience running his award-winning kayaking experiences, guides each tour with an easygoing pace that lets you soak in every moment.

“You don’t need to be a pro kayaker,” said Brenton. “Just bring your curiosity and maybe a camera for the wildlife encounters.”

“Kayaking through these magnificent wetlands is a quiet time where you we can glide through the water with just the sound of nature and the drips of water from paddles. This allows us to sneak up on wildlife and get up close and personal.”

“The Banrock Station wetlands are teaming with wildlife and by kayak we can explore them in the most environmentally sustainable way.”

Birdsong fills the air, dragonflies skip across the water, and kangaroos often make a cheeky appearance along the riverbanks. As you paddle, Brenton shares insights into the native plants, birdlife and ecology that call the area home.

Brenton explains that you don’t need to have ever been in a kayak before or be super fit. Each tour starts with a lesson on how to use the kayaks and people from ages ranging from 5-100 can enjoy the tour.

And the best bit? After your paddle, you’ll head back to the Banrock deck for a wine tasting with a view.

The cellar door overlooks the wetlands, and whether you’re into a crisp white or a smooth red, there’s something for every palate. Feeling peckish? Grab a tasting plate or book in for a full lunch package to round out the day.

Tours run for about two to three hours and are priced at $250 per person. While that might sound like a splash, it includes expert guiding, all gear, and an experience that lingers long after the kayak’s been docked. It’s a beautiful blend of eco-conscious travel and laidback luxury.

Paddle through nature, sip something delightful, and leave with a fresh perspective on how we connect with the land around us.

It’s not just a tour—it’s a deep breath of calm in an otherwise busy world.
