Global firm Cognizant to create 1,600 digital jobs in SA

Global consultancy firm Cognizant will expand its operations in South Australia with the opening of a new global delivery centre in the state, creating up to 1,600 digital roles.

Global consultancy firm Cognizant will expand its operations in South Australia with the opening of a new global delivery centre in the state, creating up to 1,600 digital roles.

Cognizant, a US multinational company employing almost 300,000 staff globally, will expand its Australia-based workforce to help local clients solve their most important business challenges through direct access to highly skilled experts in software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing and data analytics.

A key focus of the centre will be supporting clients to use digital technology and technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G and space technologies, to meet their sustainability goals, finding a path to de-carbonisation and providing solutions that help South Australia grow its Green Economy.

Premier Steven Marshall said South Australia was fast becoming not only the defence state, the space state and the cyber state – but the digital state too.

“Cognizant is joining a growing list of multinational companies deciding to call South Australia home,” Premier Marshall said.

“1,600 South Australians who are looking for a career in the digital space will have jobs thanks to Cognizant’s confidence in our great state.

“Cognizant will be in good company in Adelaide with the Australian Institute for Machine Learning, the MIT bigdata Living Lab, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure Space and Nokia 5G.

“South Australia’s capability to provide a pipeline of skilled workers through our world-class universities and institutions, coupled with Adelaide’s status as the world’s third most liveable city, makes us an attractive place to do business.

“We have also now hit a record high of 571,000 full time jobs in SA,” Premier Marshall said.

Minister for Trade and Investment Stephen Patterson is delighted Cognizant will be opening their new delivery centre in the heart of Adelaide.

“South Australia’s reputation as an innovative, collaborative and forward-thinking state and our recognised capabilities in machine learning, artificial intelligence and data analytics continue to go from strength to strength in attracting the attention of global companies wanting to drive innovation,” Minister Patterson said.

“Cognizant’s new delivery centre will create digital roles that will see our pipeline of skilled workers continue to have opportunities for careers right here in Adelaide, rather than having to move interstate.”

Cognizant CEO of Australia and New Zealand Jane Livesey said being based in Adelaide will give Cognizant the opportunity to expand strong capabilities in Internet of Things, architecture and data with a focus on building a Centre of Excellence within the global delivery centre to help clients drive carbon neutrality.

“Being based in Adelaide will help us to fulfil our purpose to build a high quality, market leading digital transformation capability that enhances the lives of everyday Australians,” Ms Livesey said.

“South Australia has been at the forefront of championing sustainable industry. The green Adelaide movement which works towards a vision of a cooler, greener, wilder and climate resilient South Australia has been top of mind. It aligns nicely with Cognizant’s sustainability and Internet of Things offerings.”

Cognizant has already started to recruit for the new delivery centre in Adelaide with expressions of interest being sought at cognizant.com/au/en/adelaide-delivery-centre
