This winter, Lights at Mawson is back, bringing a whole lot of colour and fun to the northern suburbs.
For three days only, Mawson Lakes will be transformed into a glowing winter wonderland. The main lake will be completely brought to life with interactive light installations, live acoustic music, and illuminated sculptures. Plus, it’s totally free, undeniably magical, and definitely worth rounding up the crew for.
The illuminated sculptures are a new addition to Lights at Mawson, and will be centre stage at this year’s event. The lake itself will also become part of the spectacle, and while details are under wraps (no spoilers here), we’re sure it’ll be pretty impressive.
Right by the lake, you’ll find a collection of luminous, inflatable sculptures that are all handmade by celebrated artist Evelyn Roth. Evelyn is based in Adelaide but was born in Canada, and over the years has become well-known and awarded for her colourful multi-media style. Her bold, beautiful, glowing works are sure to add an extra special touch to this year’s festival. An important note is that they are for your eyes only, so the organisers politely request no touching.
In addition to the displays, local cafes and eateries will be staying open a little bit later than usual so you can grab a bite to eat and something to drink while you’re out. This is the perfect way to turn your wander into a full evening out.
This all kicks off on July 11th and runs each evening until the end of the weekend on July 13th. There are no bookings or tickets required, so if you’re in the mood for it over the weekend, head down between 5pm and 10pm to get in on the fun. Plus, Mawson Lakes is easily accessed by public transport, with a train station and bus interchange not too far away.
So whether you’re switching up date night, looking for something to do with the whole family, or needing an excuse to catch up with a group of mates, this is just the thing.
