Adored gluten-free cafe latest venue to announce closure

The dob on King William, a popular gluten-free cafe in the city, has become the latest cafe to close its doors.

The dob on King William, a cherished, gluten-free cafe have confirmed they will close their doors at the end of this week, in the latest blow to the hospitality scene.

The team made the announcement via social media, saying it was with ‘heavy hearts’ to make the decision.

“This decision, while difficult, reflects the harsh realities faced by many in the hospitality industry today,” the post reads

“Navigating the business landscape with a mere 8-10% profit margin has become increasingly challenging especially for smaller establishments like ours with little to no margin for downturns, bad days or equipment failures and repairs. The economic pressures and the additional burdens, such as a 4.95% increase in labor costs due to Payroll Tax grouping, increased insurance and utility costs, have made it untenable for us to operate the cafe without compromising the stability of our broader operations.

“The Duke of Brunswick and the Port Admiral Hotel remain our primary focus, where we continue to support the livelihoods of 60 incredible team members. These venues are more than businesses; they are communities, and our commitment to them must come first.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to every customer who has walked through our doors, shared a meal, and been a part of our cafe’s story. Your support has meant the world to us. This decision was made to safeguard the future of our larger venues and ensure that we can continue to serve our community in the best way possible.

“Thank you for your understanding and unwavering support during these challenging times. We invite you to continue this journey with us at The Duke of Brunswick and the Port Admiral Hotel, where we promise to keep delivering exceptional experiences with the same passion and dedication.

“Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. Your thoughts are invaluable as we navigate this transition and continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.

“The space will be reinvented in the coming months with a new tenant who as a well funded owner operator has a better shot at making the space a profitable concern.”

In the last two weeks Coco Cacao, the cherished café in Henley where coffee and chocolate blended into delightful harmony, has closed its doors, along with popular patisserie ‘Sucre Patisserie’ in St Morris and award winning breakfast bar Cheffy Chelby’s.

So if you’re out and about this weekend and thinking about grabbing a coffee from your local, throw your money behind your favourite venues, because every dollar counts.
