Going to Groovin The Moo? Here Are 5 Must-Watch Acts

Adam Cope from Cats caught up with Glam Adelaide to give us his top five acts to check out at Groovin the Moo.

The crew from Cats at Rocket Bar have slowly become an institution in Adelaide over the past four years, hosting a range of the finest indie and electronic acts and being chief taste makers and influencers in Adelaide’s music community. With their deft selection of tunes and slick remixes they’ve been a huge part of Rocket’s consistent dominance in the competitive dance music and late night party scene.

We caught up with helmsman Adam “Acey” Cope ahead of the Cats DJ set at Groovin the Moo at Wayville this Friday and before he curates the Official Afterparty at Rocket with a secret, yet-to-be-announced special headline act. (Cats also hosted an official GTM pre party featuring previous acts The Jungle Giants and Jesse Davidson.)

These are the five Groovin The Moo acts Acey says are definitely worth checking out.

Snakehips

We’ve all been a fan of the English duo Snakehips for years! Their earlier beatsy tracks (like ‘Groove On’) are still staples in our warmup sets and their more recent jams are the perfect mix of modern future bass beats and pop. Their breakthrough commercial hit ‘All My Friends’ copped a thrashing at Cats and their current single ‘Don’t Leave featuring MØ’ will surely go off. They definitely deserve to play to the ~4000 people in the Moulin Rouge tent compared to the 200 they played to at Sugar back in 2013.

Pnau

Little known fact, Pnau actually played Rocket Bar back in 2007 (way before Cats times unfortunately) and we were worried when it seemed like they’d disappeared over the past few years but they broke all the rules and surprised everyone when they came out of nowhere with their current single ‘Chameleon’ which was a Cats anthem around January. Super excited to see their new live show featuring their new vocalist Kira Divine and new material from their soon to be released new album. Hopefully they play their classics like Wild Strawberries and Baby too!

The Jungle Giants

You definitely don’t want to miss The Jungle Giants’ set. Not only because they’re down to earth legends and were brilliant fun to party with at the pre party but because they’re incredible song writers and their live set is nothing but fun. Their current single ‘Feel The Way I Do’ is an absolute banger, it goes off overtime we play it at Cats and is a great sign that their upcoming album will be pure fire.

 The Darkness

A random addition on the GTM lineup but we love that GTM had the balls to do it! The Darkness aren’t a joke, they are glam rock gods. Their 2003 album ‘Permission To Land’ was a masterpiece and if you’re not looking forward to singing along to hits like ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ then GTFO. Apparently they’re releasing a new album later this year which might suck of course but bloody good on them for staying glam for this long.

K.Flay

We don’t know much about the American songstress K.Flay or her older material but her single ‘Blood In The Cut’ goes down great in our warmup songs and her new album ‘Every Where Is Somewhere’ is amazing. It was great to see that Triple J gave made it their feature album of the week a couple of weeks ago and that GTM would book such a relatively unknown fresh act to showcase too, definitely worth a watch!

Groovin the Moo is at Wayville Showgrounds this Friday 28th of April. Cats DJs are playing the Hilton Stage 7:30-8:15pm. Unfortunately tickets are sold out because y’all are thirsty for a music festy. The Official Afterparty is at Rocket Bar with a special yet-to-be-announced special guest.
