Golden North announces its first annual Giant Twins Day

February 22 is the first inaugural Giant Twins Day, and it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in the iconic ice cream!

As Golden North approaches its 100-year anniversary, they have marked a day to celebrate South Australia’s most iconic ice cream bar, Giant Twins.

This February 22 will be the very first inaugural Giant Twins Day, and it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in your favourite Giant Twins flavour, plus possibly win a year’s supply of Giant Twins!

Golden North is a beloved gluten-free, nut-free & palm oil free treat that has captured hearts around Australia for its signature rich & creamy taste.

To this day, Golden North has proudly upheld the tradition of sourcing only the freshest local milk from South Australian farmers and still makes their ice cream the ‘old-fashioned way’ using fresh milk and fresh cream.

Let’s wind back to the golden age, circa 1940 when Giant Twins were first handmade by the Bowker family in Laura, South Australia. In the very same factory Golden North uses today, staff hand poured the fresh ice cream into cake tins to freeze overnight.

Each tin had an indent halfway along, which resulted in the iconic shape of the Giant Twins bar, which was a long (giant) bar that could be snapped in two, hence the name twins!

As streamlined production processes were introduced, the iconic indent has been phased out during equipment upgrades. At this point, loyal customers kept repeating the age-old question, why are they called Giant “Twins” when it’s just a single ice cream bar?

Reminiscing became reality in 2020 when Golden North made the decision to bring back the indent halfway along the bars, presenting consumers with the option to “snap” the bars in two (again!) and “share” their Giant Twin moment.

You can pick up a box of Giant Twins, along with the whole range of Golden North ice cream products in most South Australian supermarkets, petrol stations, convenience stores, route trade and selected IGA stores interstate, in seven delicious flavours.

To celebrate the vibrant history of Golden North on the first annual Giant Twins Day, you could win a year’s supply of the iconic dessert!
