Four standout South Australian musical acts have been selected through the Arts SA Emerging Artists program to perform at this year’s Gorgeous Festival in McLaren Vale on November 28-29.

Local acts Kaurna Cronin, Life in Letters, Ivanhoe and Sasha March & the Dawnhorse will play among a line up including Xavier Rudd, The Waifs, The Beautiful Girls and Busby Marou.

Kaurna said, after much recent international touring, he’s looking forward to performing back in his home state.

“As a South Australian artist, nothing can really appeal more than performing alongside an array of magnificent artists in one of Australia’s most beautiful settings,” he said.

“We’re excited to be on board with a new album and we’ll be gearing up to showcase some of our latest tunes… we’re looking forward to bringing our energetic folk to the plate and enjoying what the weekend holds!

Life in Letters also expressed their excitement, saying: “Gorgeous has really built a reputation for itself over the past few years as a fabulous showcase of Australian music, food and wine (in the sunshine!) – it truly does sound gorgeous!”

Event Manager Alistair Cranney said there was an outstanding response to the callout for applications.

“We received just under 100 entries, the majority of which were of a standard far above what we would have expected in terms of both original song writing and unique musical talent,” Alistair said.

“We really want to give these artists some strong support, so have secured top national festival booker, agent and label head Scott Mesiti from Festival of the Sun, and venue booker, promoter and agent Geoff Trio from Brass Monkey and Code One Records who will watch their performances.

“We are aiming to repeat the success of 2012, when Emerging Artists Echo and the Empress were discovered and subsequently invited to perform at the famous Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

“While Gorgeous Festival offers the opportunity to enjoy some of Australia’s most celebrated musicians, we believe it is equally important to nurture the talent that will inspire and entertain music lovers across the coming decades.”

Alongside the music, the Gorgeous Festival program includes visual arts, premium food and wine, children’s entertainment and, on the Friday night, the new Gorgeous Table feast.

Gorgeous Festival runs November 28-29 at Serafino Winery, McLaren Vale
