Amidst the vibrant cultural tapestry of Adelaide’s music scene, GOSPO is set to shine a spotlight on the city’s talented youth with its captivating production, ‘A Chorus Cabaret’, on this Sunday 30th of July.
This uplifting performance is the ultimate show to bring the whole family together. It promises an evening of storytelling and song, woven together with themes of community, chorale, and the individual art and life stories of young performers.
A collection of almost 20 young entertainers from the GOSPO Education program aged 13-18 bravely address topics like divorce, struggles with absent parents, anxiety, friendships, bullying, and even themes as confronting as sexual impropriety in this day and age.
Through the power of music and creativity, they find an outlet to process and heal, using their pain and experiences to make a difference and create positive change in their environment.

‘A Chorus Cabaret’ is part of GOSPO Education’s program, “The Chorus,” which aims to nurture young talents and develop the future generation of artists.
“We’re all players on the stage of art and life—connecting and delivering a product to make audiences happy on any life stage you’re on. I think everyone deserves to shine, and through my experience and art I can help others do that,” Charmaine says.
The performance’s scope extends to feed into the essence of Adelaide’s art and craft, influencing the city’s cultural landscape while empowering the youth to find their voice and purpose.
GOSPO Education believes in the transformative power of Cabaret, an art form that fosters a profound connection between performers and their audiences. At the heart of this performance lies the celebration of vulnerability, where the young entertainers embrace their unique stories and experiences, sharing them through the magic of music.
Charmaine Jones, the driving force behind GOSPO Collective and its education program, is an esteemed Director, Conductor, and Arranger, known for her distinct vocal stylings.
Having spent years teaching jazz voice at the Adelaide University Elder Conservatorium of Music and now serving as Choral and Vocal Director at Pembroke School, Charmaine’s dedication to educating and inspiring extends beyond the classroom. Through GOSPO, she brings her musical vision to the public.
While GOSPO Collective is extremely well known for its fusion of African rhythms with Western harmony, this performance from its education program will be a different medley of legendary artists.
What sets it apart is the use powerful songs that reflect the raw and real issues faced by today’s youth – including Beyonce’s If I Were a Boy and Frank Ocean’s Real Love.
“I’m really passionate about changing a culture. Everything is so produced [in today’s world]; we’re striving against that in this performance. Striving for a filterless concept and keeping it real. [This show is about] being able to raise the issues youth are feeling today in an open and safe environment to process them for healing,” Charmaine passionately explains.
As music becomes their religion and peace emanates from their souls, GOSPO invites Adelaide’s community to be healed by the power of music.
For, as they remind us, gospel means “good news”, and they share that through music—a medium that breaks barriers, creating a deeper understanding of oneself and others.
Witness ‘A Chorus Cabaret’ this Sunday night, where the voices of Adelaide’s young artists will inspire, uplift, and move you like never before.
