The Royal Adelaide Show kicks off today, and whether you’re planning a day out with the whole family or exploring the halls, exhibitions, and entertainment with friends, there’s no denying there’s something for everyone—and you simply can’t do it on an empty stomach!
If you wanna skip the Dagwood dogs, fairy floss, or chip-on-a-stick and are looking for fresh, flavourful, healthy options that are bound to satisfy tummies of all sizes, make sure you check out the popular SA food truck, Taco Cartel.

Founder and operator of Taco Cartel, Josh O’Shaughnessy, is looking forward to bringing his festive food truck vibes back for a second year at the Royal Adelaide Show.
‘Our food at Taco Cartel is inspired by traditional Mexican street food, rather than Tex-Mex, which is more beans, rice and heavy in cheese etc.,’ says Josh. ‘Everything on our menu at Taco Cartel is dairy-free, nut-free, gluten-free and delicious—because we believe everyone should be able to enjoy great quality food that also tastes good.’

Located next to the wood-cutting throughout the entire 2023 Royal Show season, Taco Cartel will share a spot with Josh’s other food biz, Nugg Lyf, whose menu features gluten and dairy-free fried chicken.
‘At Taco Cartel, we’ll have pulled pork, cauliflower and chicken tacos on corn-based tortillas, along with loaded fries and nachos,’ says Josh. ‘We make our own pickled onions and fresh guacamole every day, along with homemade sauces that include chipotle and a verde-type zesty sauce. We’ll also have juicy grilled corn with shallots, cumin aioli, dairy-free butter and chilli salt—a typically tasty Mexican-style street corn.’

Josh and the Taco Cartel team are proud to provide allergen-friendly options to this year’s show go-ers, but also all South Aussies from their permanent restaurant location in Greenwith. ‘We started Taco Cartel because we looked at the festival food scene here in SA and felt there weren’t really any great dietary-friendly food options out there,’ says Josh. ‘We saw the opportunity and decided that a food truck that offered a Mexican menu with celiac-friendly food would be a great addition.’

And whilst the Taco Cartel restaurant up north is open all day from Friday to Sunday, as well as Tuesday to Thursday evenings, Josh is also excited to get out and about with his taco truck as the weather warms up in the coming months. ‘We’ll be popping up at various events and activations this spring/summer—we’re just waiting to finalise details but will update everyone via our socials real soon.’

So, following your tummy-turning ride sesh or after making your way through the dog and alpaca events, make a pit stop at Taco Cartel for a taste of authentic Mexican street food at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show—the flavours and freshness will not disappoint.
