Government house will be illuminated with a light show to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The façade of Government House will be illuminated with a light show featuring photographs of Her Majesty and her visits to South Australia.

Her Excellency the Governor and Mr Rod Bunten invite members of the public to two special events at Government House to honour the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen.

Firstly, there will be an Open House on Sunday 5 June 12 noon to 4 pm.

 Guests will be able to:

  • Take a tour of the rooms, or wander at leisure
  • See memorabilia from the Queen’s visits to Government House including entrée cards, Royal tour booklets
  • Enjoy scones and tea, prepared by the Government House chefs, on the veranda
  • View the Queen’s statue installed in late 2020
  • Sit in the lounge chair that Her Majesty the Queen used to receive guests, during her last visit to Adelaide in 2002.
  • Meet Her Excellency and family

The façade of Government House will also be illuminated with a light show featuring photographs of Her Majesty and her visits to South Australia and Australia including:

  • Former Premier Don Dunstan hosting Her Majesty on a walk through of Rundle Mall
  • Attending St Peter’s Cathedral
  • Laying a wreath at the National War Memorial
  • Addressing crowds outside the Adelaide Town Hall

Government House is the oldest continually operating Government House in Australia. Her Majesty first visited South Australia in 1954 as a young Queen and subsequently visited on a further six occasions.

The public will be able to view the illuminations from inside the Government House grounds from 5.30pm to 8.30 pm from 2-5 June.
