The Zenhouse Vegetarian Yum Cha space, down the road from Rundle Street, had been sitting empty for some time since its closure. Rascals has taken its place, Adelaide’s new quirky sandwich deli which is now launching it’s brand new wine bar.

Owners and mates Baylie Day and Josh Kleeman have created a playful, fun atmosphere to enjoy quality food and drink. By day, customers have been enjoying their locally roasted coffee and mouthwatering deli-style sandwiches. The team plays with innovative flavours and experimental specials, and priorities using local ingredients.

But even though Rascals opens at the crack of dawn, you’ll soon find them partying long after the sun sets, after the grand opening of their wine bar on Saturday the 20th of July.

The space will transform into a cozy and playful wine bar, offering a wide selection of local South Australian wines from small-batch labels including Unico Zelo, Good Intentions, Hey Diddle, and Longview Winery, along with some fun international labels. The ever-changing wine list promises to feature new finds and favourites from the owners. And of course during wine bar hours you’ll still be able to enjoy those delicious sandos, as well as charcuterie boards, croissants, and other small bites.

The owners’ love of hosting all things local extends even to venue’s aesthetic, which was designed by the team at the local design-house Longshot Studio. Its interiors are a blend of vintage charm and modern design, with a unique tattoo parlour infusion, created by local friend of the owners’ Anto Del Santo, which matches the tattooed owners.

“We wanted to create a space that celebrates friendship, flavour, and inclusivity, leaving all ego at the door,” says co-owner Josh.

“Whether you enjoy late wine nights or early morning coffees (or both), we aim to make a space for old friends and new, a place to slow down and enjoy every moment while creating fun memories,” says co-owner Baylie.

The grand opening of the wine bar on Saturday the 20th of July will kick off at 5pm and is sure to be a fun night, featuring a new food menu, a curated wine list, vinyl DJ and even a special surprise guest.
