Green Leaves: Is This Adelaide’s Best Kept Secret? A Multi Cuisine And Cheap Eats Delight!

Tucked away on Flinders St is a great little “multi-cuisine” restaurant and venue for hire just waiting for you to discover it, offering Indian, Italian & more.

Tucked away in the business district of the city is an unexpected multi-cuisine delight called Green Leaves. Opened for lunch each weekday and dinner on Friday & Saturday nights, this hidden gem is a family-run restaurant that offers great quality, cheap eats and a private function space for hire.

Within easy walking distance to venues like the Arts Theatre and Royalty Theatre on Angas Street, and just a handful of blocks from the Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas, Green Leaves is the quiet achiever when it comes to activating our quieter city streets.

The menu spans Indian, Italian, seafood and vegetarian, all served with a smile in a friendly, casual way that makes you feel like you’ve been invited to feast at a friend’s place. Co-owner Thomas Antony is the ‘host with the most’, greeting customers with a broad smile and personable service, while he and fellow co-owners Biju and Jude Joseph see to your every need.

The lunch menu comprises sensational salads starting from less than $10 through to Curry/Naan/Rice combinations from just $12.99. For those on the run, Kebab or Mixed Vegetable Rolls headline the sandwich menu, while pasta dishes are irresistible at a starting price of only $13.

Having begun with their creamy Lamb Korma, my addiction has led me to return time and time again to sample many of the delectable offerings at Green Leaves. None of the dishes have disappointed, making it one of my favourite places to eat.

The Roasted Beetroot and Citrus Salad (pictured below), the Butter Chicken, the tangy Calamari Salad and the Beef Vindaloo (mild for me, thanks!) are all favourites, while the Risotto di Pollo not only looks good but has rated in my top five dishes so far.

The more formal dinner menu begins at 5pm on Fridays and at 4pm on Saturdays, with the location being ideal for those moving between venues for the Adelaide Fringe. Entrees begin at a meagre $5.50, with most mains under $15. In fact, there’s only one main dish over $20.

Best of all, you can also just pop in for a coffee or glass of wine during meal times too.

It’s hard to go wrong with such cheap prices, particularly when the quality of food far surpasses anything else you’re likely to get at that price. There’s ample street parking nearby and entertainment aplenty within walking distance. Green Leaves will also cater parties and events, and provides a venue for hire for private functions, from 18th birthdays to more formal celebrations.
