Griff Rhys Jones to attend the SA Wooden Boat Festival

Griff Rhys Jones steams into Goolwa!  Not in his rowing boat as on his television series ‘Three Men in a Boat’ but aboard the Paddle Steamer Marion arriving in Goolwa in February to take part in the 13th South Australian Wooden Boat Festival.

The South Australian Wooden Boat Festival will be held at the Historic Goolwa Wharf Precinct on 23 and 24 February, 2013.

Griff Rhys Jones is a very keen wooden boat enthusiast, having many wooden boats himself including the splendid Sparkman and Stephens Yawl ‘Argyll’ a 57ft wooden sailing boat with a sail area of 1 456 square feet.

Griff will officially open the Festival on Saturday 23 February; participate in the Rough and Ready boat building and sailing competition, and other on water and on land activities.

“Boats have always been a passion of mine, so I am very excited to be attending the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival at Goolwa in 2013.  I have heard many good things about the Festival and the boats in Goolwa, so I cannot wait to be able to see it all for myself” said Griff.

Thanks to the South Australian Tourism Commission for sponsoring this event, allowing us to bring Griff to Australia to attend and participate at the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival in February 2013.

Minister for Tourism Gail Gago said the State Government was proud to support the South Australian Wooden Boat Festival.

“This wonderful event brings thousands of people to the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, and festival-goers certainly have plenty to look forward to in 2013,” Ms Gago said.

“The South Australian Wooden Boat Festival generates a massive amount of interest in our River Port of Goolwa” said Alexandrina Council Mayor, Kym McHugh.  “People come from all over Australia to revel in the timeless quality of wooden boats.”
