Construction has begun on a new $25-million-dollar shopping centre development in Hendon.

Set open in late 2022, the new centre will become a food and services hub for the local community providing a major jobs boost for the western suburbs and surrounds.

The 15,000sqm shopping complex will be delivered by Adelaide based construction and development company, Thirteen Commercial, and will create over seventy jobs during the construction phase. In addition to hundreds of ongoing retail positions.

Ground was officially broken on the retail development earlier in December. It will include up to ten tenancies, with key anchor Romeo’s Foodland already secured. Hungry Jacks and KFC have also signed on to the Centre’s two pad sites.

Thirteen Commercial Director Anthony Lenzi said the new centre will provides a great opportunity for the community.

“This exciting new development makes Hendon Central home to the highly sought after and South Australian owned Romeo’s Foodland,” Anthony said.

“The combination of black steel, recycled timbers and exposed red brick in the new centre will provide shoppers with a rustic, casual and convenient environment, and will become a destination for specialty food and services in Adelaide’s inner west.”

The development also offers the local community communal seating areas as well as an undercover alfresco area for shoppers to enjoy, in addition to 160 car parks.

Thirteen Commercial Asset Manager Bianca Nunn said the new space will bring people together.

“Hendon Central will provide the inner west with an authentic community hub which perfectly meets the needs of local families,” Bianca said.

“We are really excited to share this development with our tight-knit community and know they will enjoy the new shopping experience.”

Demand for space within the complex has also been strong so far. Led by Leedwell, the leasing campaign is well underway, with a number of mixed-use specialties, liquor and health services tenants close to signing.
