Groupe F To Light Up Adelaide Oval

The Adelaide Festival of Arts program will start off with a bang this year with the announcement of World famous French maestros of light and fire Groupe F showing us what they’ve got at the Adelaide Oval

In the lead up to the Adelaide Festival of Arts program launch on Thursday 1 October, Artistic Director David Sefton has revealed 2016’s explosive opening weekend event.

World famous French maestros of light and fire Groupe F return to the festival with the exclusive Australian premiere of their jaw-dropping open-air stadium spectacular À Fleur de Peau for one unforgettable night at Adelaide Oval on Saturday 27 February.

Directed by Christophe Berthonneau, this audio-visual feast will light up the oval and paint the sky with astonishing pyrotechnics and explosions of colour all set to an original score by American electro-acoustic composer and mastermind Scott Gibbons.

A cast of highly skilled star and photon tamers will be illuminated on and above a massive projected video display that also forms a stage for the action. Projections transform the stage into vibrant rolling landscapes and beastly patterns as the performers explore the environment around them.

The awe-inspiring production examines the complex relationship between individuals and the natural world; questioning whether we are in fact in possession of our surroundings, what is left of our empathy for the living world, and what we will leave in our wake.

‘…breathtaking pyrotechnical effects, high precision sound, Groupe F signed an awe-inspiring visual and sound crafted work with Á Fleur de Peau, their latest production.’ – La Montagne (FRA)

Over the past 20 years Groupe F they have revolutionised firework theatre integrating pyrotechnics, musicians, actors and video imagery to create monumental works of art. These dramatic productions have bewildered and enchanted audiences all over the world.

The company has been a sparkling presence behind some of the world’s biggest celebrations including the Olympic Games, Football World Cups and other major sporting events, centenary and millennial parties and more recently the opening of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The troupe was last seen at the special celebrations of the 50th Adelaide Festival of Arts in 2010 when A Little More Light brought crowds to Adelaide’s Victoria Park.
