WHAT ELSE IS ON

Summer is when Adelaide truly heats up, from markets to festivals to street parties, here’s what to check out while you’re here.

  • Arkhé and Friends: Ben Williamson, one of the founding directors and executive chef of Brisbane-based hospitality group Anyday, will showcase his mastery of wood-fired cooking at arkhé on December 5th.
  • The Vegan Festival Adelaide: The Vegan Festival Adelaide is back this December with around 60 stalls packed with delicious plant-based food, cruelty-free products live music, and more.
  • Christmas Markets: There are heaps of festive markets happening all over the state this Christmas season.
  • Vardon Ave Street Parties: Looking for summer fun in the city? Don’t miss the weekly street parties on Vardon Avenue, featuring talented local DJs and outdoor seating.

DESTINATIONS

We might be biased, but SA is packed with some fantastic scenery and locations. Planning a day trip, here’s our top places you can travel to within an hour or so whilst trying to squeeze some touristy stuff in.

Wine Regions

  • Barossa Valley: There are so many fantastic places to eat, drink and stay. Try Lou’s by Horizon in Rowland Flat for lunch, spend time wandering through the bigger towns like Lyndoch or Tanunda, or head off the beaten trail and explore Greenock or Angaston. No doubt you’ll find world-class food and wine wherever you go.
  • McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast: Home to award-winning wineries, a fantastic foodie scene, coastal walks and nature-based adventures, this region is loved by locals and visitors alike.
  • Adelaide Hills: Known for its cool climate wine, major towns include Stirling, Hahndorf, Mount Barker, Lobethal and Birdwood, and all have so much to explore!

Adelaide

  • The Art Gallery of South Australia: The Art Gallery houses one of the country’s most important collections of art, ranging from European classics to contemporary Australian works. It’s a cultural hub that art enthusiasts alike are sure to appreciate.
  • Chihuly: Known for his jaw-dropping glass sculptures that seem to defy gravity and logic, Chihuly has an exhibition at the picturesque Adelaide Botanic Garden showcasing his vibrant creations until April 29th, 2025
  • South Australian Museum: This natural history museum and research institution was founded in 1856, and is the perfect place to fill an hour or two. Explore the fascinating history and get lost in the displays.
  • Adelaide Central Markets: Established in 1869⁦, the Market is a thriving hub of food and culture. Explore delicious treats, what’s in season, and the best of SA produce.
  • SkyCity: South Australia’s premiere entertainment destination located in the historic Railway Station building. Food, dining and entertainment are all covered at SkyCity.

TRANSPORT

Tram: Free tram zone from between the South Terrace, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Festival Plaza and Botanic Gardens tram stops. Otherwise, use a Metro Card to tap on.

Bus: Free City Connector bus links you to popular city attractions, shopping, dining, education and other services. Otherwise, use a Metro Card to tap on.

Cricket fans can catch FREE public transport to Adelaide Oval for all three international matches, with a valid match day ticket.

Uber and Taxis are available across the state.

Scooters:  E-scooters operating in Adelaide are by Beam and Neuron, and are unlocked using a smartphone app and are fitted with GPS tracking so that users and the operator can easily find them.
