GuitarART Competition

GuitarART invites young artists to give their ideas on how they would paint, sculpt, embellish or mould an acoustic guitar into a work of art. Up to 10 finalists will be selected and then given the opportunity to bring their ideas to life with a guitar supplied by Allans Billy Hyde.

GreenRoom Competition and Exhibition are now open, giving young emerging artists aged 18-30 an opportunity to have their work displayed during Adelaide Festival Centre’s world-renowned Adelaide International Guitar Festival.

Back for its second year, GuitarART invites young artists to give their ideas on how they would paint, sculpt, embellish or mould an acoustic guitar into a work of art. Up to 10 finalists will be selected and then given the opportunity to bring their ideas to life with a guitar supplied by Allans Billy Hyde.

The finalists’ artwork will be displayed in the Dunstan Playhouse Foyer, Adelaide Festival Centre for three days during the Adelaide International Guitar Festival, after an exhibition opening event on Friday 18 July. The artwork will then be displayed at the Intercontinental Hotel, before moving to Terrace Floors and Furnishings on Glen Osmond Road where it will be one of their feature exhibitions during the SALA Festival.

The best artwork will receive $1500 cash, while two runners up will each win $200. Throughout both festivals the public will cast their vote for a ‘People’s Choice’ award of $200 which will be announced at the end of SALA.

The competition is the perfect opportunity for emerging artists to get their work seen and exhibited during two major arts events in South Australia. Artists from the 2012 GuitarART Competition include Fascination Street, a collective of Adelaide artists, architecture graduates and designers who have worked on events such as Moving Music and Jane’s Walk, as well as artists such as Daniel Purvis who has an upcoming exhibition at Tooth and Nail.

Registrations close Tuesday 10 June.
