The South Australian family-owned furniture store, Haggle Co, has announced with a heavy heart that after twenty years, closing all their stores. It marks the end of an era for a brand that’s become synonymous with accessible style, unbeatable value, and that unmistakable voice booming from your TV screen.
“Haggle Co is a proudly South Australian family-owned business that started with a single store on Manton Street, Hindmarsh, originally trading under the name ‘Rug & Mattress Warehouse’,” shared Angela from the Haggle Co team.
“As the business evolved and expanded its product range, the name changed to Haggle Co, better reflecting our broader offering across all categories of home furnishings. With steady growth, we moved into our flagship store on Port Road, Woodville. Over the years, Haggle Co grew to a peak of eight locations, including regional stores in South Australia and Victoria, becoming a trusted destination for affordable, quality furniture.”
Whether or not you’ve been in the market for furniture over the years, you may recognise Haggle Co from their iconic TV advertisements. These ads were fun and creative, and played a huge part in making the brand so recognisable.
“Creative advertising has always played a big role in Haggle Co’s brand identity, but it was really the formation of a small in-house marketing team around six years ago that allowed us to take things to the next level,” shared Angela.
“Having an internal team meant we could be far more dynamic, responsive, and creative with our campaigns. The marketing team works very closely and collaboratively with my brother Adrian, who not only fronts the commercials but is also Haggle Co’s Managing Director. It’s always been a very open creative process where no idea is off-limits, which made the work fun and often quite memorable.”

Angela shares that while over the years there have been too many to count, a few do stick out as favourites.
“Some of the team’s favourite ads would have to be the ensemble commercials where Adrian takes on multiple characters, like the HC Boyz (our boy band spoof) and the Soap Opera series. These quirky, light-hearted ads really captured the fun, approachable personality of the brand and resonated with our customers.”
As a family-owned business, Angela and her family feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to work together on a daily basis and create so many lifelong memories.
“We have also been blessed to have such wonderful staff, many of whom have become like extended family to us. Our founding director, Bob Manera, who sadly passed away last year, was the heart and soul of Haggle Co and would be incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a family and a business. We never imagined Haggle Co would become such an iconic brand and reach the heights that it has, and feel that we have achieved so much more than we ever thought possible.”

And while it’s time for this iconic business to close its doors, they currently still have five stores open, closing one by one, with the aim to have all stock sold by July 31st. Currently, their Woodville, Mt Barker, Noarlunga, Parafield, and Munno Para stores are still open, and Angela recommends keeping up to date on their website to see which stores are still trading.
As the team signs off, they do so with gratitude to the community that supported them, the countless families who returned time and again, the staff who worked with them, and every customer who walked through the doors. While Haggle Co may be closing, their legacy and big personality will continue after the signs come down.
