A month-long festival in Hahndorf has begun with more than 300 events

The Hahndorf Handmade Handcrafted Handpicked festival is back for a second year, with 15 brand new events in and around the Main Street of the historic village.

Hahndorf will celebrate their rich linage of artisan culture over a month-long festival in September called Hahndorf. Handmade. Handcrafted. Handpicked, with more than 300 intimate events and experiences in and around the Main Street of the historic village.

The event builds on the inaugural program last year to provide more ways to get your hands on Hahndorf says Mikyla Gilbert, Marketing Manager of Hahndorf.

“We had such a positive response to the event last year – we are thrilled to announce that it is on again!”

“With more than 15 brand new events joining dozens of favourites from last year, it really is a chance to get your hands on a richer and more diverse program!

“Create your own bonsai, learn the latest trends in hair styling, make your own apple strudel, or use your own personal Lego to create a custom fabric – and what’s cooler, this one isn’t just for the kids – both adult and children’s classes are available,” said Gilbert.

These new events join popular favourites from last year like creating your own personalised collar for your furry friends, a German beer masterclass, through to the uber luxe electric bike wine and produce tour.

“We wanted to build on the momentum and success of last year, extending our warm Hahndorf hospitality to the broader SA community to come together in a COVID safe way that is seriously fun, diverse and connected.

“The reason this works is that all events are small and intimate, they are already meeting strict restriction guidelines so that we hopefully avoid any postponements, cancellations or necessary pivots.

“This festival provides a platform for locals to showcase their passion and dedication to their craft – whether that be making wine and food, to creating art or simply igniting your curiosity to try something new,” said Gilbert.

Filled with bespoke experiences for all ages and tastes, you can find great events under the following categories: food & drink, art & craft, family fun, fashion & beauty, history & story-telling, workshops & masterclasses or if you simply love a free event – there is something for everyone.

The event concept was the brainchild of the Hahndorf Business & Tourism Association who wanted to reintroduce South Australians to the treasures of Hahndorf, which is only 15 minute’s drive from the start of the freeway.

Chair of the Association, Jordana Ashcroft said that this was the perfect opportunity for the people of South Australia to rediscover the region.

“We hope people get involved and book tickets to the many events on offer, or simply soak up the atmosphere with a leisurely walk up the Main Street.

“Hahndorf has evolved into a true artisan village and we think many South Aussies may not be aware of the sheer depth and range of the talent and produce associated with our region. We are really excited to showcase what we can do and look forward to welcoming the people of SA to our community,” she said.

The event starts on Tuesday 1 September and will run for the entire month of September.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most of the event line up is ticketed whether if the event is free or has a cost.
