1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle will take over 98/100 Gouger St, which was home to beloved Szechuan restaurant Ba Guo Bu Yi up until early last year. The hand-pulled Chinese noodle chain has restaurants across the country, and with the latest franchisee set to take on Gouger Street, SA will soon boast three 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle locations.
The highly popular handmade noodle restaurant already serves up freshly made dishes at dining halls in Rundle Place and Westfield Marion. With a mouthwatering special broth seasoned with eight spices and a handful of secret ingredients, the restaurant is sure to delight the tastebuds.
While the recipe delights, the real draw of the restaurant is the expertly crafted hand-pulled noodles. If you’ve ever been to a 1919 Lanzhou, you’ve likely seen the seven types of freshly made noodles made right in front of you. It’s magnificent! The seven noodle styles range from ‘thinnest’ which are comparable to angel hair pasta to ‘wide’ which are ultra-thick with ruffled edges.
While the opening date is still under wraps, 1919 Lanzhou Gouger Street is deep into the process of finding staff and renovating the interior for a fresh new dining experience. The building has also advertised that a new Asian Fusion restaurant Chō Chō, will look to share the former Ba Guo Bu Yi space.
The menu features hand-pulled noodle dishes, dumplings, buns, and cold dishes. Among the highlights are the Lanzhou handmade beef noodle soup, special pork noodle, fried and steamed dumplings and buns.
1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle was established in 2018 when it opened its Ashfield and Burwood stores in New South Wales. It has since opened stores in four other states including SA, Queensland and the ACT.
Ba Guo Bu Yi went into liquidation on March 18, 2024, and its closure brought quite a disappointment to regular diners. The restaurant had struggled since covid and was contending with high rent and overheads, forcing it to shut its doors after almost 14 years of business.
By taking over the location, 1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle is breathing new life into the space with a strong focus on Chinese noodle soups and hand-crafted dishes.
Look out for updates from the franchise, as the Gouger Street edition is expected to open soon!
