The Ottoman Grill sits in Glenelg and is home to healthy grilled food and Turkish style pizza. Alongside this traditional Turkish restaurant is a new, accompanying retail shop, the Ottoman Design, which moonlights as a function room. Owner Omer Soner tells me the store specialises in Turkish pottery.
“The pieces are unique and handmade,” says Soner.
They are also completely beautiful. Turkey has a long history of producing ceramics, known for ornate, hand-painted tiles and carefully crafted ornaments and crockery. Turquoise is a common colour utilised in the production of Turkish ceramics and pottery, which is reflected in the pieces available in the Ottoman Grill’s retail store. Think delightful colours, intricate patterns, and a distinctive style. Soner tells me he is also stocking “Turkish tiles”, ideal for adding something special to a bathroom, kitchen, or even an office wall.
The Ottoman Design is adorned with these incredible pieces. From floor to ceiling, you’ll find eye-catching decorations, tiles, and crockery. What makes this store especially unique, is that Soner is hiring it out for private functions.
“There are two spaces available for hire,” he says. “We held a great event for Mother’s Day and are excited about what is to come.”
According to Soner, the Ottoman Grill menu is accessible when hiring out the Ottoman Design. He says the Banquet deal ($29.50 p/p) is particularly popular. Punters start with dips, zucchini balls, and pida bread, and go on to lamb and chicken skewers with rice and salad, with baklava to finish. Also on the menu is a variety of pida flavours including cheese, salami, and potato, to name just a few. As far as veggie options go, Soner says there are many dishes suitable on the menu, and they are working on a fully vegetarian banquet.
Of course, the gorgeous pieces stocked at the Ottoman Design are available for purchase.
