Exciting upgrades are underway at the Happy Home Reserve in a move to elevate the recreational facilities of the area. This development is working to improve the existing amenities but while creating place for the community adjacent to the Salisbury Aquatic Centre.
The primary addition in this redevelopment is the introduction of a Road Safety Park. This educational facility is innovatively designed to replicate real-world road conditions, providing a practical training environment for children. Here, kids can learn how to navigate public roads safely while riding bicycles or scooters. The park will feature an asphalt circuit complete with various types of road crossings, including pedestrian and railway crossings. To mimic real-life traffic scenarios, the park will also be equipped with active traffic signals, official road signage, and appropriate line markings.
The reserve upgrade will also include several other new features aimed at improving the usability and enjoyment of the space. These include a half court for basketball and futsal, new pathways, fencing, shade structures, barbecue facilities, a drinking fountain, park benches, and beautifully landscaped and irrigated gardens. The development scheme also plans for a minor enhancement in public lighting.
Another significant improvement will be the construction of an additional carpark with 130 spaces, designed to support Salisbury Aquatic Centre with overflow parking during the busy summer months. A new entrance from Waterloo Corner Road will also be constructed, enhancing access and optimising traffic flow into the reserve, which are set to be completed next year.
This project has received significant support through funding, with the joint efforts of the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program and the City of Salisbury making these upgrades possible.
City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM shared, “Happy Home Reserve is already a much-loved community space, and these upgrades will make it even more vibrant, inclusive and safe for families.
“We’re especially excited about the Road Safety Park, which will help our youngest residents learn important road skills in a fun, supportive environment.”
The Federal Labor Government has also committed substantial financial support, chipping in over $1.2 million for the construction of the Road Safety Park. Matt Burnell MP added, “The Federal Labor Government is contributing over $1.2 million to the build of the Road Safety Park. The Road Safety Park will be a fun and exciting way for kids to learn road safety.
“The City of Salisbury continues to build a vibrant community through inclusive and well thought out infrastructure, I am proud to be part of a government that is supporting this.”
These upgrades are expected to give the Happy Home Reserve both a new look, while improving the functionality.
