A retiree from Happy Valley has started his week as a millionaire after a unique strategy, used consistently over four decades, finally paid off in the latest Weekday Windfall lottery.
The man, who preferred not to be named, scooped up a cool $1 million in draw 4527 held on Monday, 31 March 2025.
The sole winner of the division one prize nationwide, the local Adelaide man was understandably overwhelmed when contacted by a representative from The Lott this morning. “I’m very good today!” he exclaimed, still riding the wave of his win. “It’s amazing, but I’m still a bit stunned. It’ll sink in slowly.”
His lottery strategy, quirky yet evidently effective, involves a methodical analysis of prior draws. “I always look at the previous week’s draw results and I always choose different numbers to what was drawn,” he said.
This long-term lotto enthusiast has been in the game for 30 to 40 years and his persistence has finally paid off spectacularly. “I once got five numbers, but I’ve never gotten division one,” he explained, recalling his near-wins over the years.
The realisation that he would be a millionaire came as a shock during the routine check. “When I was marking off my numbers last night, I was quite happy to get four, then I kept checking and discovered I had all six! I was shocked.”
The new millionaire has already shared his good news with friends and family, who are ecstatic about his win. Plans to celebrate are already underway, with a lunch party perhaps the first of many festivities.
When it comes to his winnings, the retiree has practical plans. “I’m retired so it’s going to be a real help,” he noted. He intends to invest in some home improvements, consider the purchase of a new car, and possibly plan a holiday to Queensland. “There’s certainly lots I could do!” he added.
The winning ticket was purchased at Happy Valley Newsagency in the Happy Valley Shopping Centre. The owner of the newsagency, Mehul Modi, was delighted, saying, “It’s such an exciting feeling to know that we played a part in someone’s division one win.”
The store plans to celebrate and share the news with patrons and on their social media platforms. Coincidentally, the last division one ticket they sold was also on a Monday, nearly three years ago.
The winning combination for draw 4527 consisted of the numbers 18, 6, 34, 24, 43, and 38, with supplementary numbers 13 and 16.
This win adds to South Australia’s impressive tally of winners this financial year, with South Australian Lotteries customers having claimed 38 division one prizes. Nationwide, the total division one wins across all states have reached 355 this year.
