Have A Virtual Adventure At Adelaide’s Newest Arcade!

Fight your way through zombie hordes or fly effortlessly through the skies at Adelaide’s most unique gaming arcade!

Adelaide loves a good tech invention, and so we’re pretty sure the city will be celebrating the arrival of Untethered, our newest (and only) VR arcade!

There’s no emergent digital technology that quite gets our imaginations running like virtual reality. With films like Ready Player One and rapidly growing investment in this niche of the video game industry, we’ve never been more ready to don some futuristic-looking goggles and immerse ourselves in fantastic digital realms.

Untethered: Virtual Reality is a gaming arcade recently opened on Gouger that’s completely unlike any other in Adelaide. You won’t find any bulky cabinets or rows of desktop PC’s there, but five bays with a large flat-screen display at the back. The display isn’t for you, your gaming experience will come from a HTC Vive VR headset that’s been set up for wireless use.

Using positional tracking technology, the Vive detects your head and hand movements and translates them into the virtual realm; letting you literally live out your fantasies of fending off zombie hordes, or defending the castle from a besieging army. We recommend trying static games to begin with, as motion-based experiences like roller-coasters can be somewhat disorienting at first. Having tried a friend’s Vive setup, I can highly recommend Superhot VR if you want to feel like Neo from The Matrix.

Untethered’s pricing starts at $25 for half an hour of VR, and are open till 10pm Thursday through Sunday (by appointment only the rest of the week). They suggest allowing five minutes before your session to learn how to use the Vive hardware. To book your session and to find out more info, head to their page. Follow them on Facebook as well to keep up with events.
