Have you tried SA’s best winery restaurant?

South Australia’s d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant has taken out Best Restaurant in a Winery in Australia.

In November 2023, Adelaide’s iconic winery, d’Arenberg scooped up the title of “Best Winery Restaurant” at the Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence in South Australia.

Six South Australian restaurants won big taking home first place in their category, and one of those was the standout d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant. The stunning venue, which is housed in a restored 19th century homestead with spectacular views of the rolling hills and vineyards.

“We are pleased to celebrate the achievements of Australia’s most distinguished operators,” said Restaurant & Catering (R&CA) CEO Suresh Manickam about the winners. “To achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze in the National Awards is a testament to each recipient’s hard work and dedication to their craft.”

It’s no surprise d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant took out gold as the venue has quite the stellar reputation. It sits on the same premises as the iconic d’Arenberg Cube which is a five-storey building known for its intriguing exterior.

The d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant splits in two levels; you have the Verandah itself, and indoors with wall to wall glass windows. With both overlooking the southern vales and vineyards of McLaren Vale, it is safe to say that the view is a spectacle unto itself.

Then there’s the food, which is the star of the show. The menu is guided by the seasons, showcasing the finest produce from the Fleurieu Peninsula at its mouth-watering best.

Guests can choose their own adventure with a lavish 8 course degustation, or select their own 2 courses or 3 courses from the seasonal à la carte menu (you can also choose a wine pairing to go with the expertly crafted meals).

Some of the options from the Spring Seasonal Degustation menu include canapes like d’Arry’s bread with truffle butter and Almond stuffed, crumbed and fried green Willunga olives with dill and caper aioli. Plus, there’s main dishes that will leave you drooling like the Seared Abrolhos Island scallopsand fried nduja, with shaved celeriac, apple salad oregano oil and lemon mascarpone.

At d’Arry’s the chefs utilise their own vegetable and herb garden, you can even see them popping out of the kitchen to cut a sprig of rosemary or some other herb, which is lovely to see.

The restaurant has a long history and has been serving diners for over twenty years. But, the d’Arenberg winery itself has an even longer history, with the Osborn family attending to the vineyards since 1912.

The brand is always taking out multiple awards, including its most recent major win. In the same “Best Restaurant in a Winery” category that d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant won gold, The Wood Restaurant at Brokenwood Wines in New South Wales took out silver and the Sandalford Wines Restaurant in Western Australia took out bronze.
