Hellbound wine bar announces new inner-northern suburbs location after CBD closure

An impressive stint of a very fitting 6.66 years in the CBD finally came to a bittersweet close last Saturday.

An impressive stint of a very fitting 6.66 years in the CBD finally came to a bittersweet close last Saturday, because the venue is moving to the suburbs! Owner Mark Reginato is keeping the finer details under wraps, but this week finally saw the official announcement of Hellbound’s new location. Join us in welcoming Hellbound to its new home in… drumroll please… Bowden!

Having Hellbound in the midst of Rundle Street’s eating and drinking oasis, ironically, considering the venue’s underworld theme, was an absolute blessing. It was the perfect mix of casual and deluxe, and when choosing a glass or a bottle, it’s impossible to get it wrong, because every drop is just so damn good.

The city will dearly miss Reginato’s unique style of hospitality, that brings guests together across tables and allows patrons to delight in a vibrant, free atmosphere. When you step into Hellbound you can expect some of the most switched on bartending you’ve ever seen. You’ll see Reginato conversing with three table groups, ultra-precisely pouring wine for two people at the bar, and serving food to another table all at the same time. It’s genuinely very impressive, and while Hellbound will be greatly missed by the city crowd, the suburbs are in for the treat of a lifetime (or perhaps an after-lifetime)!

The beloved venue will be taking a few months off to get prepared, before it moves to the inner-northern suburbs in April. Reginato commented that the move is still a long way away with this week set aside for demolishing the interior of Hellbound’s former subterranean CBD home. While he refused to share any further details about Hellbound’s new location, Reginato said, “It’s been absolutely hectic, and we’ve only closed 72 hours ago. I’ve got plenty of time, until April to share the details.”

“Things aren’t slowing down, they’re ramping up, and I’m still juggling the other businesses,” Reginato said. He references his wholesale drinks companies Connect Vines and Man of Spirit, which will look to play a bigger part in the new Bowden space.

The new location will breathe some more freedom into the wine bar, with a much greater capacity to serve delicious food to pair with beautiful wines.

For a lot of Adelaidians, the word Bowden has become synonymous with Plant 4, its bars, eateries and markets. The massive open-plan warehouse is home to a thriving hospitality haven, and it could well be primed and ready for a new wine bar. However, a Plant 4 representative has shared that Hellbound is not in discussion with either Plant 3 or Plant 4. So, expect the new wine bar to pop up in the suburb of Bowden but not within the Plant 4 complex.

Reginato is adamant that the essence of the bar, the one that the CBD crowd has grown to adore, will remain. He said, “This isn’t goodbye; it’s just a shift in geography. We’re bringing the same passion, the same people, and of course, the same amazing wine list to a new space that will take everything you love about Hellbound and amplify it.”

To send off its first grand chapter, Hellbound hosted a week of glorious events dedicated to the seven deadly sins, from Saturday, January 11 to Friday, January 17. As a final goodbye, on Saturday, January 18, Hellbound hosted its official goodbye party, with DJs, cocktails, fanfare, and a whole lot of delicious wine.

Since the opening of Plant 4 in 2016, Bowden has birthed a delightful host of venues, solidifying the suburb as one of Adelaide’s premier hubs for food and culture. From the eateries and bars in Plant 4, to the mystical Oddio, to the light and bright Jarmer’s Kitchen, Hellbound will join a very healthy list of bars and eateries.
