Hellbound wine bar set to leave CBD, bound for new location in the suburbs

2018 saw Hellbound, the vibrant basement bar, open up on Rundle St, but now it’s about to get a new home.

Owner, Reggie Reginato said on social media, “It saddens me, but excites me equally to let you know that Hellbound Wine Bar is leaving the basement and the CBD.”

“We are not saying goodbye, but see you later, in a new suburban location. The offering will extend to a tasting room, events, training & education space with parent companies Connect Vines and Man of Spirit.”

Connect Vines is a boutique Adelaide agency showcasing and connecting the drinker with local beer, wine, and spirits. Man of Spirit is an associated local spirit distributor.

Although we’re yet to find out exactly where the bar is moving, it’s been a hell of a run in the CBD.

In true Hellbound fashion, and as a tribute to the name, the monumental move comes almost exactly 6.66 years after its doors opened in the city. And what’s more, they announced it on Friday the 13th.

On social media, Reginato thanked his patrons, staff, suppliers, friends, family & former business partner Louis Schofield who helped to open the venue in 2018.

The venue initially opened through the Renew Adelaide initiative, but gained a long-term tenancy, much to the delight of Rundle St frequenters. Hellbound has since gained a cult following, known for delicious wine and an unmatched atmosphere. It’s certainly sad to see the bar leave its long-term home, but all the more exciting to witness a new beginning.

With classic branding of a Rousseau wine bottle logo, designed by iconic Adelaide artist, Billie Justice Thomson, the bar is hard to miss when walking along Rundle. We’re crossing our fingers that Hellbound will bring its unmissable branding and wonderfully cosy interior to the new location.

The venue was awarded Top 50 Venue – Young Gun of Wine in 2018 and 2019 on top of Best Property Transformation by Renew Adelaide in 2018.

Hellbound’s Rundle St location will take a brief holiday over Christmas before reopening on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of December. After New Year’s the bar will reopen on Thursday January 2nd for a final run in the hustle and bustle of Rundle St.

So, while Hellbound may be leaving the basement, it’s not leaving Adelaide! From its cult-classic beginnings to its next chapter in the suburbs, this isn’t goodbye, it’s see you soon.
