The City of Adelaide will today welcome the arrival of rock and roll legends AC/DC by ringing the Adelaide Town Hall bells ahead of tonight’s spectacular Black Ice concert.

Deputy Lord Mayor Michael Henningsen is pleased to welcome the super group to Adelaide with the help of Matthew Sorell and six members of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Bellringers before their concert at Adelaide Oval tonight.

“It’s great to see an act the calibre of AC/DC coming to Adelaide. We would like to welcome them to the City by ringing the bells of the Adelaide Town Hall to mark the occasion.”

“After a call was sent out to the public via Triple M radio asking for suggestions for ways to best celebrate AC/DC’s arrival in the City, we responded by asking Matthew and his ‘band’ of ringers to help celebrate,” said the Deputy Lord Mayor.

Austereo General Manager James Pederson said that since the announcement of AC/DC’s tour, Triple M listeners have been highly anticipating the rock band’s arrival in Adelaide.

“Adelaide City Council were very enthusiastic to help us celebrate the arrival of the rock and roll legends,” Mr Pederson said.

With over 200 million albums sold worldwide, Black Ice is AC/DC’s first Australian tour since 2001 and is set to be one of the most spectacular rock shows ever staged in the City.

“With 70 semi trailers worth of staging and lighting equipment and a crowd of more than 40,000 people the AC/DC concert will be one of the biggest Adelaide has ever seen,” said the Deputy Lord Mayor.

Tower Captain of the Adelaide Town Hall Bellringers Matthew Sorell is thrilled to be part of the troupe to ring the bells and welcome the band to the City.

“Many members of the Bellringers are huge AC/DC fans and we like AC/DC appreciate the joy of making good noise for the public.”

“We are Adelaide’s oldest and heaviest heavy metal band. The bells have been in the Adelaide Town Hall since 1886 and we have 20 tonnes of bells across the City of Adelaide,” said Mr Sorell.

Don’t miss the ringing of the Town Hall bells at 12.15pm TODAY, Tuesday 2 March at the Adelaide Town Hall.
