South Australians are urged to give this August to Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Appeal and fund vital cancer research.
The Daffodil Day Appeal has been taking place throughout August, culminating in Daffodil Day on Thursday 25 August 2022.
In 2022 Daffodil Day celebrates 36 years of turning Australia yellow, with all funds raised supporting vital cancer research. Cancer Council and its research partners invested more than $290 million in world-class cancer research from 2016 to 2020, making the organisation the largest independent funder of cancer research in the country.
Thanks to investment in research, amazing advancements have been made in cancer prevention, screening and treatment. Currently, around 70 per cent of Australians are likely to survive a cancer diagnosis, an increase of around 20 per cent since the 1980s.
With 31 new cases of cancer diagnosed in South Australia every day, Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Kerry Rowlands urged the South Australian community to give this Daffodil Day Appeal to fund the country’s best and brightest cancer researchers.
“More than 3,800 South Australians lose their life to cancer every year, which is more than the population of Ceduna,” Rowlands said.
“The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for everyone impacted by cancer, which is why this year we’re calling on South Australians to give hope to those impacted by cancer by supporting the Daffodil Day Appeal.”
“Every person who donates, volunteers or buys daffodils this August will help us to continue to invest in life-saving cancer research programs, giving hope for better treatments and early detection and ultimately, giving hope for a cancer free future.
This year you can support Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Appeal in the following ways:
