If you’re after a feel-good weekend activity to give back to the local community, conservation group Sea Shepherd are holding a Henley Beach Clean Up on Sunday the 6th of June.

To combat the scores of plastic bottles, chip packets and coffee cups strewn across Australian beaches, Sea Shepherd has hosted over 800 clean ups throughout the country, removing in excess of 81 tonnes of debris that otherwise is washed into the ocean, damaging Australia’s much-loved sea life.

Sea Shepherd have been defending Australia’s vulnerable coastlines since 2016 against marine plastic pollution, removing an excess of 5 million pieces of marine debris and plastic with the help of 31,000 dedicated volunteers.

The group last came to Henley in April 2021, where they collected 4428 cigarette butts, 1030 pieces of soft and hard plastic and 29 pairs of PPE globes. The June meet up will look to complete a similarly thorough sweep of the popular beach spot, with any volunteers asked to meet at Joe’s Cafe to start the clean.

The perfect weekend activity for those passionate about protecting Adelaide’s beautiful coast, volunteers are asked to bring gloves, a reusable water bottle and closed-toe shoes, setting off on a sweep of the sand before eligible items are washed and recycled.

The Sea Shepherd Clean Up of Henley will run from 9-11:30 am on Sunday 6 June.
