Last year the inaugural annual fundraising event, Soup and Sleep was held in order to raise money for those who are doing it tough.
Run by Café Outside The Square, Soup&Sleep is a major annual fundraising activity with a mission to make sure that no one goes hungry. The event itself will see the community uniting to provide warming, hearty soups to those in need. It will also see those who choose, to do it tough themselves for the night by sleeping under the stars on nothing but a piece of cardboard – a stark reality for many South Australians.
The charity is bracing itself for a massive increase in demand for food by disadvantaged South Australians, saying that whilst businesses and communities are largely returning to normal after the pandemic, the hunger problem has grown significantly, and they fear that the vulnerable members of our community will be hardest hit as we head into the colder months.
With the help of iconic local chefs (last year national treasure Maggie Beer led the way) the community are looking to provide over 30,000 meals for disadvantaged South Australians while also raising money and awareness. Last years event raised over $150,000 and this year, the aim is to smash that goal.
Local entertainers will be there on the night and most importantly a host of people sharing their own stories about just how hard life can be for many in the community, not as fortunate as you or I.
Taking place on Thursday 2nd June, you can support Soup & Sleep by heading down to Outside The Square on the night or making a 100% tax deductible donation either directly or by sponsoring a participant.
All proceeds go directly towards feeding those who are doing it tough right now, and cannot afford a fresh and healthy meal, and towards providing training and employment opportunities to help them help themselves.
