Tucked away in a little alley beside the Gatsby Lounge on Grenfell Street, Heng Heng 555+ is turning heads as the hottest new pop-up. It’s the very first spot in Adelaide to offer ‘Mookata’ – a traditional Thai BBQ and hotpot experience that’s a popular staple in Thailand.
Currently in its pop-up phase, Heng Heng 555+ is testing things out this winter to see if it can become a permanent fixture, and with the positive feedback it’s already received, it’s looking like this fiery new spot might just be sticking around.
‘Mookata’ is a unique dining experience where you grill and simmer your food right at your table. It features a dome-shaped grill surrounded by a moat of rich, flavourful hotpot broth. You get to sizzle marinated meats and seafood like pork, prawns, squid, and mussels on the grill, while glass noodles cook in the savoury broth below.
Top it off with a whole egg cracked directly onto the grill, and you’ve got a taste sensation that’s truly one-of-a-kind. It’s perfect for sharing with friends, and unless you’re travelling to Thailand, it’s totally unique to Heng Heng 555+ in Adelaide.
“It’s been really popular in the Thai community [so far], and the feedback has been good,” Owner Belle says.
Heng Heng 555+ is the brainchild of Belle, an international student and owner of Kaya Desserts along with various other ventures in Adelaide, and her business partner, a former Thai chef who previously led the kitchen at Social Street S2.
The team has some exciting plans for the future of the restaurant, including turning it into a late-night spot on weekends, featuring live Thai music and all the buzzing energy of Thai street culture.
