The People’s Cup is making it’s way to South Australia and giving you the chance to win two tickets to the Melbourne Cup. With Adelaide playing host to the $200,000 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup on September 8 and Murray Bridge on September 10 as part of its milestone 15th annual tour of Australia and New Zealand, just take a selfie with the Cup to be in the running.
While in Adelaide, the Cup will engage in a number of exciting activities including appearing at the Royal Adelaide Show before heading to Murray Bridge where it will visit Resthaven Nursing Home, Murray Bridge Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and Lerwin Nursing Home to give residents and patients the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Cup.
John LePlastrier, COO of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society, said the Royal Adelaide Show is looking forward to hosting the iconic trophy.
“The Emirates Melbourne Cup made an appearance at last year’s Royal Adelaide Show and was so popular we are thrilled to have it return this year. It will give everyone who attends this year’s Show on September 8 the opportunity to get up close to the famous Cup,” John said.
Racing legend Joe Agresta, former track rider for Bart Cummings, will also join the Tour and share firsthand his unique Emirates Melbourne Cup story.
The famous trophy will visit 31 destinations across Australia and New Zealand, starting in West Wyalong in regional NSW, where the gold used by ABC Bullion to make the trophy is mined, before returning to Flemington for ‘the race that stops a nation’ on the first Tuesday in November.
Since its inaugural year, the Tour has travelled more than 494,000 kilometres and visited more than 377 regional, rural and metropolitan destinations, providing communities with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the magic of the Emirates Melbourne Cup firsthand.
