It has arrived! ‘It’ being the 2016 James Halliday Wine Companion, and doesn’t it just reflect amazingly on one of our own wine regions, McLaren Vale.
The wine great, James Halliday AM, has once more recognised McLaren Vale as one of Australia’s best wine regions.
The release of the 2016 James Halliday Wine Companion has awarded more than half the regions wineries with a five star rating, not forgetting that 34 of the wineries demonstrated a long established track record of producing exemplary wines.
Shiraz and Grenache received notable recognition as over 170 wines from McLaren Vale were rated at 95 points or higher, including 97 points for the 2013 Bekkers ‘Syrah’ and 97 points for D’Arenberg’s 2012 ‘The Beautiful View’ Grenache.
The success of McLaren Vale as a region is only supported by Peter Fraser of Yarangatta Estate Vineyard’s victory as the 2016 Wine Maker of the Year – the only major award given to a South Australian producer.
