Hewett Community Market to hold Spring Fair in support of South Aussie small businesses

The Hewett Community Market are back again this Spring season with their nifty markets to help support local South Aussie businesses.

Ah… Spring! It’s the season before South Australia’s stinking heat forces us to sit under the air con all day and our breakthrough from the freezing cold that has us hibernating in winter. Hewett Community Market will be making the most of Spring with the Hewett Spring Fair on Saturday 17 September.

The fair accumulates a collection of small business within the area every season of the year to support their unique innovations.

“This will also be the first birthday of this market which aims to provide a place where locals have the opportunity to not only socialise but to help support some local small businesses,” Market organiser Karen Bowes says.

“The market has also proven an inexpensive way for small businesses to widen their customer database.”

Although the official list of stallholders won’t be released until 31 July, you can expect to see some of the Hewett Market regulars like:

Carolyn’s Scones, based in Kapunda, featuring the rich doughiness of the classic plain scone, as well as toothsome pumpkin, date and savoury cheese and chive flavours – just like Nanna used to make. And don’t worry if your tummy isn’t dairy friendly, they offer lactose free options too!

Gawler jeweller Love for Lobes, who donate $2 from every purchase of their quirky accessories to Catherine House. You don’t want to miss their best-selling F-bomb earrings or their more kid-friendly Disney, Pepper Pig, Pokemon and Marvel designs (to name just a few).

Angle Vale resin artist Anna’s Art who specialises in an array of wooden carved cheeseboards, trinket dishes, trays and bowls that are dipped into the mesmerising swirls of vibrant resin mixings – the perfect pop of colour in any household decor.

Penfield embroiderer Seam’s Ezy Embroidery who specialise in personalising newborn teddy bears and towels that’ll make your little one’s first milestones that bit more special.

Poppy Locket Crafts offering handcrafted goods from Sandy Creek including a wide range of affordable crafts like baby shower nappy cakes, one-of-a-kind tote bags, adorably knitted teapot covers and handmade stuffed toys.

My Craft Room who specialise in the most charming little shelf-sitter gnomes that can be commissioned for special occasions or seasonal like her grinch and Cindy Lu little gnomes, mini Port Power supporters and the cheeky Peter Rabbit.

As well as locals who aim to reduce our use of plastic, including Hewitt-based Karen’s Beeswax Wraps featuring quirky designs for all age groups to keep food fresh in a stylish and non-pollutive way.

And new addition to the fair is The Bag Lady Gawler SA, who upcycles fodder bags into reusable and repurposed shopping bags in cute animal designs.

Make it a family day out and keep the kids busy with free water-based tattoos, bookmark colouring, a Lego table, foldable origami fun, or get them involved with outdoor activities like quoits, a bean bag toss and even a scavenger hunt.

Finish off the perfect day off with a homemade sausage roll, pastry, sweet treat or barista-made coffee at the Hewett Inclusive Cafe, which actively aims to break the employment barriers people with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues experience.
