When a 138-year-old Adelaide pub hosts a 131-year-old Barossa Valley winery for an evening of libation and degustation, you know some riveting tales will be told.
This gathering of South Australia’s earliest providers of great wines and good times will occur on July 4th, when the Earl of Leicester hosts Kaesler Wine for an indulgent five-course and five-wine degustation suitably titled the “Kaesler Barossa Icons Wine Dinner.”

Since its doors opened in 1886, The Earl of Leister has been among Adelaide’s most beloved pubs for generations of locals and visitors. It’s the place you head to for hearty favourites like Ploughman’s Plates, Wagyu Rumps, and their award-winning Chicken Schnitties. For lighter eaters, the menu also includes Tuna Sashimi, Grilled Halloumi Salad, and Honey-Glazed Duck Breast, among other delectable options.
Competing with its dining menu for diversity is its vast and impressive selection of beers, spirits, wines and cocktails. They are masters of their trade, so it’s no small thing they’ve buddied up with their old (very, very, old) pals, Kaesler Wines, from the Barossa to deliver a tour de force of flavour.
We can thank Silesian pioneers, the Kaesler family, for planting 96 acres of vines in 1891; producing some of South Australia’s finest wines since their vines came to fruition in 1893.
Their wine has not only stood the test of time but a portion of it is still produced from the ancient dry-grown Shiraz vines planted by the Kaeslers.

These two iconic hospitality institutions are coming together under the guardianship of the Earl’s Head Chef, Steve Webster, who has thoughtfully designed every dish to be paired with a Kaesler wine, including their celebrated Barossa reds, the Alte Reben Shiraz and the Age of Light Cabernet.

While Steve is cooking up a feast, Stephen will be telling all the tales. Two flavour hounds with similar names and a shared passion for the unifying power of chatting with new and old friends while sharing food, drink, and good energy.
Stephen Dew is Kaesler’s Winemaker (pictured below). He’s the perfect person to guide you through Kaesler’s world of wine varietals and enhance your appreciation of the winemaking process. Along the way, he’ll also share the fascinating history of Kaesler Wines.

Since there’s nothing like a bit of suspense to add to the excitement, each guest will be in the running to receive a complimentary bottle of Kaesler Wine, so they can pour out their memories of this special event in the days, months or years that pass. No doubt, Stephen will tell you when best to enjoy your prized bottle.
Bernard Kulwazi, The Earl of Leicester’s Hotel Manager, told Glam Adelaide that he’s “…very excited to have our friends from Kaesler at The Earl. I visited the winery for the recent release and was blown away by the wines and the direction the team has taken. This will be an event to remember!”
