The journey of transforming the historic Fort Largs into a vibrant coastal community, complete with a fresh produce and seafood market, is well underway. With the restoration of this iconic site in full swing, anticipation is building for the grand opening expected in the first half of year —marking the Fort’s first-ever public access.
The Fort is set to be a focal point within the community, where people can come together to celebrate heritage, indulge in local produce and admire the craftsmanship of artisan goods.

“We are excited about the imminent completion of building works of the Fort Largs Eatery and Fresh Produce Market. [This] year will be a special year as we welcome the Fort Largs community through our doors to enjoy this space for the first time,” quoted Local Seafood business owner Jarn Jamison on Pete’s site in a project update.
The Fort, originally constructed over 138 years ago to safeguard Adelaide’s coastline, has served various roles throughout its history.
From protecting the city to housing the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps and later becoming the South Australian Police Academy, Fort Largs has been an integral part of the region’s heritage.
Since 2012, the Fort had remained vacant and in disrepair until Peet embarked on the journey to restore and revitalise this historic landmark. The project aims to preserve the site for generations to come while educating the community about its rich history.
The development includes a mixed-use amenity that will feature an eatery and a local fresh produce market. This endeavour aligns with Peet’s commitment to enhancing the community’s local amenities and attracting new residents to the area.
The mixed-use development will not only celebrate the Fort’s character but also offer a range of living options and amenities that cater to various lifestyles.
The local fresh produce and seafood market, developed in partnership with Jarn Jamison, promises a unique and enriching experience.
Marketgoers can look forward to access to fresh produce sourced directly from local farms, offering some of the state’s finest ingredients. In addition to the array of fresh produce, the market will host a variety of local creative stalls, featuring clothing designers, musicians, and craft makers, showcasing their finest products. Independent studio spaces will also provide a platform for emerging creative talent.
Key milestones for the Fort Largs project include the final civil stage set for completion this month and the commencement of landscaping works this year. Building works have already commenced throughout the development, with the first homes beginning to take shape.
